I'm not one hundred percent sure about this one, but I've put it up for two reasons. First, I really like the way the sea looks almost entirely unnaturarl. In a sense this was partly an accident; i.e. there's something quite odd about the transition from the shore to the sea, but it's something I'll try and replicate in future images. Second, does this shot make you feel at all seasick, or similar? The reason I ask is that my wife can't look at this one for more than a few seconds without feeling slightly ill. Well, at least the seasickness explanation is the one she gave me ;-)
Anyway, I have another five shots to put up from yesterday's trip to Fleetwood: another shot of this tyre (that I prefer to this one and will put up in a couple of days), a shot of the pier, one of a buoy, and a few others.

Hehe, I can feel with your wife. It does make my head spin. My explanation is more the unusual tilt of the shot though than the sea. ;) Works nicely IMHO though.

Nah, no seasickness. And not much else to be honest. In fact I think it's rather ordinary. Good to see you are mortal Dave. :)

There's something about the shore that seems to make it 'above' the sea, if you look at it for a while the sea doesn't seem to fit in properly. A good shot nonetheless, warm colours as with the previous shot.

I'm with the sea sickness crew. You have to look away as it feels as though you're about to go into a spin. Very odd. Love the textures and colours though - as seen briefly :-).
Glad to see you back on line.

I like the unusual angle of the sea somehow messes with your mind. I feel like my eyes are trying to subconsciously try to find an angle that will make the sea look "normal" and it does cause a weird sensation.
It has some very nice colors. I like it.

I think it's an awesome angle - at first I didn't realize it was the ocean though - my eyes were playing tricks on me =) Love the detail on all the little pebbles - the natural elements contrast wonderfully with the man-made...Great photo!

Thanks everyone.
Geoff: this is my least favourite out of this shoot ... well, of the ones I'm going to put up.
As for the angle of this shot: to be honest, it was one of those scenes that I thought I should be able to shoot, but most of the shots I took didn't work out. I'll be putting up a better one in a couple of days but thought this one had enough merit to post.

Great perspective. I imagine being drunk and waking up by the sea side and seeing this.

It is a little unsettling in an odd way.
Nice job sharpening the stones.

I hate to be a buzz kill, but you were right not to be 100% sure about this. I've been a silent visitor of Chromasia for about a year and a half now, and this is easily the photograph I like the least. It is cluttered and un-sure, like you were trying to make something out of nothing. However, I could never say I dislike it the most, since the rest of the site is pure genius-in-progress.
Cheers.

I like how you have tilted the camera to take this shot. I think if this had been a normal landscape shot there wouldn't be much of interest.

I like the sharpness of the photo around the wheel. But it didn't make me sea sick.

I'm sorry, I didn't really like this one.. like Peggi, at first I didn't even realize it was the sea, I thought it was a picture of a tire next to a wall, hehe.. but the angle is creative =)

It reminds me of the picture of the washing up bottle on the beach, I think it was taken at a similar angle?

I did not realise that was the sea when i looked at it first. There is a sharp transition between the beach and the sea. I like that little corner of the sea and sky. After looking at it a little more, I quite like it.

Excellent angle, and I love how smooth the sea looks. Eerily calm. I don't get seasick, but I do get a sore neck ;)
comment by RustyJ at 08:34 PM (GMT) on 21 November, 2005
Yes to seasickness. It was the first thing I noticed. Felt would be a better word for it. Closing one eye or covering the sea as suggested in an earlier comment stops the effect. The sea looks very Surreal or 'generated' like in the Finding Nemo movie if you have ever seen that. You have children so perhaps the movie jumped accross the Atlantic. ;-)
I like this one better than the next one of the tire/tyre although I do like that one too. I love the rocks.
comment by RustyJ at 08:37 PM (GMT) on 21 November, 2005
Actually if I look at the tire, I get the seasickness feeling. If I look at the sea I don't get the effect. Odd.

Ever wonder how things like a tire get out by water? I'd like once to see a person take one and set it out there so I can ask why.

I really like this, but I think I'm gonna puke. (Ah, wait, if I just cover the sea with my hand I perk up right away.)
