This is a companion shot to the one I put up the other day and is taken through the same side of the tram shelter as John's shot from a couple of days ago. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect that this one won't generate quite the same degree of controversy as yesterday's image ;-)

Looks like Blackpool has branded a wet day on a bike as its very own. The best of the battle of the bus shelter so far.

I like the colours in this picture a lot.....just a personal thing but i find myself enjoying it more if i cover up the black and green lines from the tram shelter glass.
I agree about the controversy comment :)

I like the emotional noir of the companion shot but this one if much more fun.
The greatest observation about this shot is the affect of the wet, sandy glass: it looks a PS effect. It's art imitating Photoshop!
I like the strong fore colors and the pastel background.

I love it. Great colour palette and nice composition. I really like the smudges on the glass that just happen to coincide with the back of his backpack.
By the way, for anyone in Australia, the ABC is showing a 6 part mini series about Blackpool (wed night I think) - it started last week. But it might be a good show to get a feeling for this town which Chromasia documents so interestingly.

Very cool shot, the rain and the contrast between the sharpness of the foreground and the blur of the background is excellent.

Now this bicyclists shoes would be wet! It's got to be tough riding in water that deep. ;-) I had a similar reaction to these shots. Like Sharla I felt the other shots allowed the dampness to suck the life from the photos and give them a feeling of dispair(which I liked). With the colour 'left in' the dampness and rain seems be being beaten back. The look or style of the photo (minus the stripe) reminds me of a painter....Monet maybe? Looks like you applied brush strokes to everything but the stripe.
As always, thank you David.

Interesting shot, This one evocate youthfulness, and happyness and movement. The John's shot evocate with the same success old age and sadness or "light" dispair.

I like this - although if I can refer back to yesterday's debate (or at least, the part I was involved in), you COULD say that those wavy lines were someone elses work and therefore it's not your own work. That was part of my argument yesterday, and the counter-argument that people put forward was: where do you draw the line?
I argued that there needed to be an extra element of context for the shot yesterday - today is a perfect example. The element that really makes it for me today is the cyclist, who looks like he's riding through the waves, and in what looks like lashing rain too. The framing, the timing, it all works, it makes it a personal, original shot.
Today, it doesn't even cross my mind that someone else designed and applied the wavy lines to the tram shelter.
I also love that you can't really see any details of the cyclist, other than he/she seems to be wearing a hat and kagoul to hide from the rain, so one can project one's own emotions onto him. I really like this picture.

A better bus shelter shot than the last one. It's winter and I know it's wet outside (and cold).
Bring back the glamour girls!

Thanks everyone.
owen: I don't draw the line. Well, I suppose I do – a straight shot of nothing but somebody else's work would, IMO, be pretty pointless – but the shot you mention, for me at least, is a perfectly valid form of photography.

Sure - it's just I felt pretty shouted down for saying it lacked something original for me! I liked it... and this. I think both those sentiments got lost.
Sometimes the 'discussion' between visitors here gets a bit Holier Than Thou and I don't feel experienced enough to get drawn into that. I just say what I think. :)
I'll say it again: I like it. ;)

Nice shot. It almost looks like a drawing.
comment byIoannis at 10:50 AM (GMT) on 7 December, 2005
It looks remarkably like a painting. And again, the logo on the glass really adds to it. I love the contrast of the sky with the brown of the sun, road and pavement.
