This is one of two entries I'm putting up today, which are too similar to warrant posting on consecutive days, but good enough (IMO) to put up as separated entries. I don't know which I prefer.

But ...

I do like that you can see the full extent of the pier in this one, and that you can just make out the colour of his hair.

I really like them both Dave. The wheel in the other shot really adds something to it - but there's something about the silhouette on this one that strikes me more. It has warm tones but you can tell it's winter - there's just something cold about it too. Lovely shots- both of them :)

It's a good photo but this version doesn't give the same emotional result as the squared one. I see that it have the same tonal ambient but its not so appealing as the other.

This is a hard decision David. I like the light at the edge of hair showing the hair colour. Do I also detect a little blue in the smoke (?) coming from his mouth? This is a great photo but I think I like number 2 better.

Thanks.

I prefer this one because of the smoke. it's always really hard to decide which is the better behind similar photographs - i'm making a portfolio right now and editing it down is impossible! it's a real photographers skill being sure enough to know which image is preferred with a good reason.

by the way... if 'lingering weirdness' counts as comments taking much longer to post than they used to then i just found some 'lingering weirdness'!

Joe[y]: yes, there does seem to be a problem with the comments script; i.e. it's using most of the CPU to process a single comment. I'll investigate it.

I like them both, lovely colours and a sort of contemplative mood.

Both are quite lovely, but I prefet this one... I agree, you can just make out his hair, and that stream of breathe (smoke?) is light, but noticeable. the light on the pier is lovely... and i agree, it's great to see the length of the pier. i also love how this one (and the other) are cropped.

i would definately buy this print... if only i had a little extra cash!!

lovely, david!

Liked this a lot and better (IMHO) for less tinkering.

Thanks everyone, and on balance, I preferred the second one too.

Neil: there was more 'tinkering' on this one, in terms of colour balancing, but both are pretty much straight shots.

Lovely.... The Sepia effect ( i think its there...) jst brought out the perfect pose out here. there is something white smoke?? coming out of the person which is in nice contrast with the background water color. along with the blurred back dock... amazing... i m jst an amateur in this .. but already a fan of all your snaps on Chromasia
