There's something about curtains, especially the old, seedy and chintzy variety, that I find particularly fascinating, despite the fact that I don't seem to photograph them all that often. And I know that this won't be to everyone's taste, but I'm pleased with it, not least because it's the first shot in at least two weeks that has turned out exactly as I wanted it to. Which, given the feverish archive scouring of recent weeks, is a relief ;-)

I really like the angle, color, detail, and lighting. Great shot, one of my favorites of your recent stuff.

I see why you might be pleased with this shot..its not visually stunning or particularly engaging. but its a well executed shot and certainly post-worthy. Those curtains are odd though arent they? are they attached at the hip?
comment byBenjamin Riley at 09:23 PM (GMT) on 17 February, 2006
Another good shot. I like the angle of capture (a straight up shot would be less interesting) and the repetition of the pattern draws my eyes back and forth across the whole image. wonderful exposure keeping the whites bright while avoiding a shinny reflection on the glass and metal encasing. I suppose this was a handheld shot considering the camera data.
comment byJem at 09:26 PM (GMT) on 17 February, 2006
lol! Duck porn? :P
Or maybe i've looked at that from the wrong perspective :S
Gave me a giggle in my mind anyway - Cheers Dave ;)

I do like this, the colours and toning especially.
comment by RustyJ at 09:46 PM (GMT) on 17 February, 2006
lol! Jem: as the picture was unfolding before me I was thinking those ducks are being rather friendly. ;-)
This is a great picture David. Angle and crispness are great.
I have to get me a set of those curtains!
Thanks.

Decorative. Not sure about the angle. Looks like you've tried to add trendiness to documentary.

I see you have all your ducks in a row. Interesting patina on the framing.

Hi David, just so smooth and beautiful. Great tones as always...

I like the angle and composition, I was just wondering how much photoshopping was done for the colours and contrast?
comment byMicki at 12:21 AM (GMT) on 18 February, 2006
The angle makes the shot, the color of the window frame matches the ducks' so well.
comment by Matt at 01:16 AM (GMT) on 18 February, 2006
I've not commented for a log time as I feel I don't need to speak. Your pictures speak enough but recently I've been disappointed, especially the last few days. Your photogaraphy has been nothing special and that's the thing that has always drawn me here: your class and individualism. I think you are working beneath the benchmark you have set yourself though I understand we expect too much of you.
Take care and keep up the (largely) good work!!!!!

Lovely pattern and I like the angle you pi cked. Gives it some movement.

I just loaded the page and thought I had gone to John Washington's blog instead. Are you sure you didn't accidentally take his memory card? Doesn't seem like your regular style at all.

I like it. Interesting pattern and angle. Not something my wife would hang, but I'm sure it fits the person who put them there.

I like the idea and the treatment but for some reason the subject matter doesn't seem too thrilling to me. Interesting though.
comment byNavin Harish at 09:24 AM (GMT) on 18 February, 2006
Nice shot. What I like mosty about it is green and red colour of the ducks on a relatively colourless image.
comment byMike Dougan at 10:39 AM (GMT) on 18 February, 2006
I don't normally like "tilted" photo's but this just POP's right out of the screen! Very unusual image but I like it.

Thanks everyone.
ninu: I'm not sure what it was, but don't think it was a Chinese restaurant.
Carter: I'm puzzled by them too ;-)
Jem: I think you need to take a nice cold shower ;-)
Matt (Simpson): separate curves for each window and the frame to set contrast and colour balance, Hue/Saturation, and a vignette.
Matt: I've been archive raiding recently as I haven't had much time to shoot; i.e. I've been posting stuff that I'd previously rejected. Hopefully, especially since the weather's improving, I'll be putting better stuff up over the coming weeks.
Justus: I often like the shots that John puts up on this sort of theme, I just don't shoot them all that often myself.

It works well colorwise as well. The greens of the wall and the curtain as well as the browns of the frame and the ducks' browns.
comment by Jamey at 07:20 PM (GMT) on 18 February, 2006
The title for this shot has me giggling like a schoolboy. Like it. The angle makes it, IMO. If it was dead level, it'd lose a lot of appeal for me.

i like the processing, and I think it'd work great as a head-on straight-lined shot, but the slanty angle doesn't work for me at all, it seems like a gimmick to try to add to a photo you don't feel is very strong without suhc measures. imho
