Looks almost like a computer-generated telephone company advertisement. I suppose I mean that as a compliment, however.

Absolutely fantastic! The blue of the sky almost blend with it's reflection of the mirror ball. Just beautiful!
Here's the proof that an object can be view and photographed in several ways, each of it very different.

Very cool photo - I love it! It took me a few minutes to realize how it was taken (thought it was a regular image distorted by Photoshop at first).
Makes me feel like I could slip off the edge of the world ;-).
comment byBenjamin Riley at 10:02 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006
I like this one the best of the ones you have taken of the mirror ball. the offset framing works well, and gives the image enough color contrast between the red sidewalk reflections nad the blue, while still retaining a smooth transition between the sky and its reflection in the ball. awesome persepctive!
Just to let you know your search missed one out [link].
It really is an amazing subject, and you really do it justice with your shots.
Not sure I see the self portrait in this one tho, im sure its there and im too tired/lazy to find it.
You think you can squeeze any more shots out of the subject?
comment byBaraka at 11:15 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006
This rocks! I thought it was some sort of globe at first. Its an amazing structure too.

The colors are just superb. Nice one David!
comment by Tammy at 11:58 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006
I had to look twice before I realized that it looks like an island made of mirrors in a blue sea, rather than a globe in the sky. Nice double perspective.
comment by Max at 12:18 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006
Sweet shot. It totally looks like a island.
You may already know this but your white/gray/dark CSS links aren't working.
comment byRobert at 12:26 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006
The white/grey/dark links are working OK here: using Firefox 1.5.01.
Spectacular colors in the shot, and I like how you positioned it to seem like we're looking down on the globe.

This is so fascinating. It forces you to spend time gazing at it. I like that in a photo...when you have to spend time looking at its intricacies...

"Ground Control to Major Tom ..."
You've done superbly interpreting and presenting this image. Even knowing this pic is the mirror ball of past examples does nothing to diminish its impact. I like the atmospheric blues and how they blend, the "land mass" colors and regions. The flipped presentation also works extremely well.
Just very, very good all the way 'round.

Amazing shot. In the thumbnail, it looks exactly like a beach.
Cracking shot, that's one hell of a mirror ball! The edge of the ball against the sky looked like the edge of a reef at first glance! Magical sky

Wow! The disco ball of all disco balls. Very celestial and cool. For some reason, I'm quite drawn to revolving around it.

It appears that everyone loves this photo. I'm trying to come up with something to be critical of, just to be different...but I can't seem to think anything. Although I very much like the analogy that it looks like the Kool-Aid guy with an eye-patch.
Anywho... I like the composition very much. Nice job!

This picture is quite simply "genius" (and you might suspect how much I loathe saying that to anyone but the mirror)...and in that vein of veracity, I'll tell you exactly what I thought when I saw it (free-association style). The lyrics of "Planet Earth" by Duran Duran. ...."Oooooh, oooh....This is Planet Earth.....You're looking at planet Earth". The sphere seems to be straining its neck to display itself to the heavens...like some retro-glam radio telescope adopted by a particularly kitsch member of the SETI project.
I've taken a few shots of this mirror ball in the past; but it's been a while since I put one up.

This is rather beautiful! the colours look superb very rich and warm.
A planet of our time. Another dimension. Great !

JD: yep, I'm sure there's another shot or two ;-) As for the self-portrait: you can just see my hand in the bottom right segment of the image.
Max: they're working ok for me. Is anyone else having problems with them?
Wow - I love it Dave. It's so abstract, it almost looks like it's computer generated, but I love that it's not ;)
Dave, the links have worked for me in the past but I'm getting a Javascript error when I click on them now. I'm using IE6 but it could just be me.

But with the blue sky it seems a little bit unreal :-)

good morning everybody fool bloggers !
It looks like something from outer space - great colours.
Is our planete in the space? It's your best of all others shots of this mirror.
Thats really quite cool, why couldn't the sky look like that when i went to blackpool the other week, we had horrendous weather :-)
amazing colours.
