I've taken a few shots of this mirror ball in the past; but it's been a while since I put one up.

interesting abstract.

comment by Sean at 09:49 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

Looks almost like a computer-generated telephone company advertisement. I suppose I mean that as a compliment, however.

comment by nuno f at 09:54 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

Absolutely fantastic! The blue of the sky almost blend with it's reflection of the mirror ball. Just beautiful!

Here's the proof that an object can be view and photographed in several ways, each of it very different.

comment by Steve at 10:00 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

Very cool photo - I love it! It took me a few minutes to realize how it was taken (thought it was a regular image distorted by Photoshop at first).

Makes me feel like I could slip off the edge of the world ;-).

comment by Benjamin Riley at 10:02 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

I like this one the best of the ones you have taken of the mirror ball. the offset framing works well, and gives the image enough color contrast between the red sidewalk reflections nad the blue, while still retaining a smooth transition between the sky and its reflection in the ball. awesome persepctive!

comment by Mohammed Adenwala at 10:05 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

Very interesting...what exactly is it??!

comment by Paul Woolrich at 10:26 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

This is rather beautiful! the colours look superb very rich and warm.

comment by sistereden at 10:27 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

A planet of our time. Another dimension. Great !

comment by Gavin at 10:31 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

Strange, I was looking at the previous shots earlier & wanted to see more. This one's incredible. I really like it.

comment by JD at 10:34 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

Just to let you know your search missed one out [link].

It really is an amazing subject, and you really do it justice with your shots.
Not sure I see the self portrait in this one tho, im sure its there and im too tired/lazy to find it.
You think you can squeeze any more shots out of the subject?

comment by Baraka at 11:15 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

Groovy!

comment by Phil at 11:26 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

This rocks! I thought it was some sort of globe at first. Its an amazing structure too.

comment by Ashish Sidapara at 11:55 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

The colors are just superb. Nice one David!

comment by Tammy at 11:58 PM (GMT) on 1 March, 2006

I had to look twice before I realized that it looks like an island made of mirrors in a blue sea, rather than a globe in the sky. Nice double perspective.

comment by Max at 12:18 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Sweet shot. It totally looks like a island.

You may already know this but your white/gray/dark CSS links aren't working.

comment by Robert at 12:26 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

The white/grey/dark links are working OK here: using Firefox 1.5.01.

Spectacular colors in the shot, and I like how you positioned it to seem like we're looking down on the globe.

comment by djn1 at 12:26 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

JD: yep, I'm sure there's another shot or two ;-) As for the self-portrait: you can just see my hand in the bottom right segment of the image.

Max: they're working ok for me. Is anyone else having problems with them?

comment by Jem at 12:41 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Wow - I love it Dave. It's so abstract, it almost looks like it's computer generated, but I love that it's not ;)

comment by Max at 01:15 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Dave, the links have worked for me in the past but I'm getting a Javascript error when I click on them now. I'm using IE6 but it could just be me.

uhh very nice, like a puzzle!

comment by Michael Sarver at 03:25 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

This is so fascinating. It forces you to spend time gazing at it. I like that in a photo...when you have to spend time looking at its intricacies...

comment by Bryan g at 03:47 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

almost looks like it was taken underwater! brilliant

comment by andyp at 04:27 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

sort of reminds me of the coolaid guy with an eye patch ;O

wonderful as usual ;-)

comment by Sharla at 05:36 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

"Ground Control to Major Tom ..."

You've done superbly interpreting and presenting this image. Even knowing this pic is the mirror ball of past examples does nothing to diminish its impact. I like the atmospheric blues and how they blend, the "land mass" colors and regions. The flipped presentation also works extremely well.

Just very, very good all the way 'round.

"Here am I floating round my tin can, far above the moon.
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do."

comment by andrew at 05:42 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Whoa, very cool!

comment by Navin Harish at 05:59 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Amazing shot. In the thumbnail, it looks exactly like a beach.

comment by Jessyel Ty Gonzalez at 06:06 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Great composition on this one, David. Well done; one of my faves of yours in a while.

comment by Louise at 07:04 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

The snaked planet... Very interesting

comment by Lito at 07:56 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

I don't know which one i found better. This one or that one

But with the blue sky it seems a little bit unreal :-)

comment by peter at 09:15 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

It looks like something from outer space - great colours.

comment by Christian at 09:20 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Is our planete in the space? It's your best of all others shots of this mirror.

comment by SteveO at 09:29 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Thats really quite cool, why couldn't the sky look like that when i went to blackpool the other week, we had horrendous weather :-)

comment by Ellie at 10:52 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

amazing colours.

comment by Rob at 10:58 AM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Cracking shot, that's one hell of a mirror ball! The edge of the ball against the sky looked like the edge of a reef at first glance! Magical sky

comment by JELIEL³ at 01:08 PM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Wicked COOL :D Nothing less than that

comment by tobias at 01:50 PM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

comment by bill at 03:36 PM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Nautical, celestial and terrestrial all at once. Thanks again, sir
for inspiring me to look harder, think harder, shoot better.

comment by Daniel Seguin at 03:45 PM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Wow! The disco ball of all disco balls. Very celestial and cool. For some reason, I'm quite drawn to revolving around it.

comment by Mikelangelo at 03:52 PM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

It appears that everyone loves this photo. I'm trying to come up with something to be critical of, just to be different...but I can't seem to think anything. Although I very much like the analogy that it looks like the Kool-Aid guy with an eye-patch.

Anywho... I like the composition very much. Nice job!

comment by EJ at 04:14 PM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

comment by Anil at 09:06 PM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Amazing shot David....at first I thought that it was suuspended in water...a very good analogy for the earth actually!

comment by PhilB at 09:34 PM (GMT) on 2 March, 2006

Excellent shot Dave! Love that sky and great composition.

wonderful wonderful wonderful

comment by Deb at 01:59 AM (GMT) on 4 March, 2006

This picture is quite simply "genius" (and you might suspect how much I loathe saying that to anyone but the mirror)...and in that vein of veracity, I'll tell you exactly what I thought when I saw it (free-association style). The lyrics of "Planet Earth" by Duran Duran. ...."Oooooh, oooh....This is Planet Earth.....You're looking at planet Earth". The sphere seems to be straining its neck to display itself to the heavens...like some retro-glam radio telescope adopted by a particularly kitsch member of the SETI project.

(I told you I needed a holiday....)

comment by Nina at 08:20 AM (GMT) on 4 March, 2006

I like that it take some contemplation to realize where you are in the picture.
