We went down to St. Annes this afternoon, and I thought I'd try a few lensbaby shots of the pier, but there was what felt like a 40mph wind blowing, and the rain was horizontal. I did take some shots, in between attempting to keep the blood flowing through my fingers, but predictably enough they weren't exactly worth posting. So, it's back to this one that I shot last week. And I know it's not exactly a riveting work of art, but it's one of those small scenes that occasionaly catches my eye. It isn't about anything, as such, but the interplay of colour and light and shadow caught my attention long enough for me to photograph it.

I love it...very graphic design like. I wonder whether people will argue its merits as a photograph OF something though... ;-) I just love the stylish simplicity...and the blue is great (but then it is my colour)
I know you struggled for something to put up today ;)
It's maybe too graphic looking for my liking - but I like it none the less ;)

I hate to say this... but i like it! Its just so fresh, and i love the railing style thing in the background. A nice calm friday shot :)

Simplicity using your imagination. A very creative way of making excellent photographs without the need of long hours processing the files. Very fresh, and the blue agains white is always a good combination. The shadow give movement to the composition.

This is not sky but the reflection of it, the projection of the viewer and the above of our imagination.

Such a naughty shot. Cool

I like it; it's got a cool. refreshing feel and makes you look twice and think: is that a photo, or just made in photoshop?
I'm not sure about this one, I'm interested in it, but not sure.
What was the logo on? I'm thinking an advert/billboard or a van??
comment bytobias at 11:00 PM (GMT) on 10 March, 2006
Same, here, it is rather graphic. Looks like a photoshop effort. Very sharp for a photo though.

Robert (and JD, and tobias): this is blue translucent lettering, on a window, beyond which you can see the shadow of some railings on a white wall about three feet beyond the window. So no, it's not made in photoshop ;-)
comment byJamey at 11:09 PM (GMT) on 10 March, 2006
Well at first glance I just thought you'd made a text layer in Photoshop and typd 'Sky' into it, over the top of a washed-out photo. So I guess that must be testament to the sharpness of the shot. If I'm honest, though... I don't really like it. It seems to graphicy to be a photo but not graphicy enough to be good design.
Props for trying new things though. That's what it's all about.

I may be totally alone is this, but here goes anyway:
The ultimate test for me when evaluating a photograph is not some technical or philosophical analysis straight out of the textbook on the art of photography, but rather whether or not it's something I'd like to print, frame and put on my walls. I'm not on any huge mission with my shots, except to fill my life with what I consider beautiful. The point: this shot passes that test for me. Granted, there are others that I would rather have on my wall, so it may lose relative to the rest of your work, but I like it.
Does photography really have to be such an intellectually heavy pursuit, or can we just be like children?

For a moment I tought there was something wrong with Chromasia and that this was a commercial related message ;)
It is way too simple to (in my mind) be a chromasia production. Not negatively meant in any way, it IS well executed. But its just a step too simple in perspective of photographs. Can it be that?
comment bydjn1 at 09:44 PM (GMT) on 11 March, 2006
Nicola: it certainly looks similar.
Kenny: yep, it's simple, and you're right, it's not a spectacular shot, but it did catch my eye.

No, sorry, just read your comment. I just said that it looks like a CS effort. Perhaps this illustrates that perhaps this image loses the shadow focal point for me. As in looks graphic rather than a capture of a photographic nature. Still, it is striking and that in essence is what one is looking for...
