If the yellow lines weren't there it could almost be a wave at the beach - I like it. Was it an action shot? The water looks like it's moving...

comment by Kenny at 09:47 PM (GMT) on 11 March, 2006

Good work, David. You can make anything (almost) exiting. The way you darken sands and asphalt is outstanding. I like it...

abstract.
generally i like abstracts.
something about the framing is not quite right here though.
can't pin-point it

comment by Robert at 09:50 PM (GMT) on 11 March, 2006

Good abstract with little teeny-tiny wavelets (also known as ripples). I'm interested in anything that has moving water -- did you step in the puddle?

comment by nuno f at 10:08 PM (GMT) on 11 March, 2006

I agree with Free Spirit. When I saw this shot I associated immediatly with a beach. Another fantastic photo. :-)

comment by Robert at 10:18 PM (GMT) on 11 March, 2006

I didn't associate this with a beach...but I do really like this one.

I really like your abstracts. This one is the next great one.

comment by Claudi at 12:49 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

I like the textures so different and so similar. Cool.

comment by Dean S at 01:44 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

195 tiles, not bad, so you didn't even get an image of yourself tiling? I find it hard to believe!! lol, no seriously, that would be a bad idea actually, you may end up with a lens cover permanently sealed!! Blimey i'm waffling, Sleep!! Nice image, double yellow lines = No tiling on a Sunday and lots of fun with Camera for Mr D Nightingale!! Take it easy !!

Nice abstract shot.

comment by Kelvin Chan at 02:14 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

Wonderful textures in this one.

comment by Sharla at 02:19 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

I like the diagonal between solid and liquid states and the yellow stripe that defines the boundary. The contrast between the smoother texture of the asphalt (tarmac) and the usually smooth water is a contrast of another kind.

Obviously the wind was very strong and I'm a bit surprised that even 1/180 was fast enough to cancel the affect of it blowing on the sail-person holding the camera. ;-)

great shot! i'm guessing that the parking lot is a bit too close to the ocean? it makes for a really interesting visual juxtaposition.

comment by joan at 04:30 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

I love this photo.

comment by Cain at 06:01 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

The photo is wonderful your site has now become the first I check everyday...Thank you for being such an inspiration..

comment by pooh at 06:17 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

superb! the stark yellow really draws the eye, and i'm really enjoying the flowing lines, both of the yellow, the water, and its reflection.

comment by GeckoZ at 07:27 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

I like the lil' water waves!

comment by John Washington at 07:47 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

Great photo. Now why didn't I spot that. Simple and very effective Dave.

comment by Geoff at 08:22 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

Nice shot. Simple, yet very effective. I think it's because it is somewhat enigmatic. It has a mystery to it, despite the simplicity. Good work.

comment by bruno at 08:46 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

nice. i like that yellow color and grey color on the way. nice

comment by Jesse at 09:49 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

a little bit boring...

comment by JD at 10:57 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

quite the urban beach look

I like it, sharp, contrasty, diagonal composition is a bit john washington esque.

I remember the first shot that I saw of yours which involved the road and yellow lines. I found them very inspiring (love yellow on black), but im yet to even attempt a similar shot for fear of mere imitation.

comment by Raymond Tse at 11:23 AM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

Colour, lighting, texture, contrast - this photo has everything - great work.

comment by lel at 04:12 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

This really is beautiful to me. The water has a very solid feel to it.

comment by navin harish at 05:33 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

An extraordinary shot of a very ordinary thing

comment by Manolo at 05:47 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

Me gusta mucho el contraste. I like the contrast.

comment by djn1 at 08:08 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

Thanks everyone.

As for the movement in the water: it was quite windy.

comment by Amy at 01:18 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Hey!
i really like this shot, and I'm not sure why. Maybe because water and roads don't often mix, if you know what I mean. I like the lighting on the water. Tell me this wasn't a lot of postprocessing! :-D

comment by MAMZi at 04:16 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

great shot. I like how the wind has made a plastic wrap effect on the water.

comment by Justin Haaheim at 04:57 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Love it. I've been experimenting recently with shots of curbs -- especially with reflections in the surrounding puddles. I really like this one of yours.

comment by Karl at 08:10 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Still having one of the most visited photo-blogs on the web: ... priceless.

comment by Alastair Bryce at 09:01 PM (GMT) on 20 March, 2006

Nice... I've been wanting to take a photo like this for a while, but never found the right spot for one - that and having the guts to risk looking like a complete idiot to passers by as you take photos of a bit of raod ;).
