You'd be forgiven for thinking that the title refers to the post-processing, but 'believe it or not!' is the name of the shop over which this dinosaur and his implausibly large pocket watch reside. That said, given the surreal nature of the subject matter, I did go for a rather in-your-face version of this shot. This version is partly an HDR (High Dynamic Range) image (I retained the sky from the original shot) as I wanted to add some detail back to the underside of the dinosaur. Anyway, if nothing else it's certainly odd enough to warrant posting ;-)

The post processing works perfectly for the subject. Looks great!

your HDR images look so weird and unnatural but at the same time look so darn good. another wonderful picture.

This really made me laugh! Looks like a Jurassic Park version of the white rabbit in "Alice in Wonderland" - "I'm late!" ;-).

Wonderful shot man!, Keep it up. Getting inspiration day by day with your pics.

comment by Lee at 08:47 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

HDR images certainly do look weird...compared to a normal shot. Everyone knows in a photograph you cannot have the sky and something in the foreground in correct exposure(not like this anyway), either a silohette or blown out sky.

So it is interesting to see sometimes.

comment by Robert at 08:48 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

Great job using HDR to keep that beautiful dark blue sky while still getting detail in the mouth and neck. I believe!

comment by Kenny at 08:57 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

I believe! Its sickingly good...

comment by Manolo at 09:05 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

extranger composition, but very nice ejecution.

comment by bmoll at 09:35 PM (GMT) on 12 March, 2006

I hoped this isn't an HDR image (before reading your info), but I still like it much as it's such an awesome pic. Astonishing shadows and colorus (not to mention the perspective and dark vignette around:). Technically beautiful.

comment by tim at 01:25 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Great Colours... as always. There seems a bit of a discrepency between the time on your camera and the clock...

comment by PlasticTV at 01:41 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

After days of abstracts, here's finally another picture i can laugh at. :) Shooting from the underside makes the t-rex look big and comical.

is that clock counting down for our extinction?

comment by Johnny at 04:58 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Does that clock say 'Ripley's - Believe It or Not!"? I didn't even know that show had stores. Its a good thing they do, otherwise no dinosaur-hovering-over-clock shots. Your HDR posts have been quite someting. Its really peaked my interest and got me experimenting. Thanks.

comment by Chieftain at 05:43 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

I like the bad breath out of the dino's mouth. :-)

comment by Solin at 06:09 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

It works fine; it's funny and with excelent colors and composition. I believe this time the HDR technique did work very well with the subject and the general surrealistic feeling of the shot. Isn't this all about? techique as a resource, not as a goal.

comment by d at 06:14 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

love it, love it, love it

comment by peter at 07:48 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

OOOOHHH noooo he is coming... run run.
i like this one. all we need now is Superman..... :)

comment by Lito at 08:04 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

This is an impressing shot. I like it. It reminds me of the film "Back to the future II" :-) >> The scene where the big white shark hologram cames down from the top of a building...

Godzilla attacks blackpool.

comment by Lito at 09:09 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Better :-)

comment by JD at 11:14 AM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

didn't expect it to be a HDR shot,

great composition as always.

I think the lines between the dinasaur and the sky is far too sharp which makes it look a little too fake, a bit like a pasted shot, white the building doesn't.

PS did you add the vignetting or was this the lens?

comment by Jasmine at 01:07 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Really, really fantastic shot. I started laughing as soon as it appeared on my screen. The details are amazing. Pefect use of some HDR. Brilliant shot. Thanks Dave!

scary times!! great pictures! Thanks!

comment by maubie at 03:18 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

That is a really cool dinosaur... and granted, the post processing does work here. Sort of.... The dinosaur looks like it as lit in a studio.
Is it a reallly tiny dinosaur, or a really big pocketwatch?

comment by Hervé at 04:47 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Nice one, once again. I think I'll give an eye to the HDR reprocessing. But I know the most part in the result is due to your talent.

comment by Barry Burris at 05:22 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Love this pic and your use of HDR. I like the heightened realizm. Since utilizing HDR do you find yourself shooting a bracketed set of shots all the time or just when you have HDR in mind? How else has it effected your shooting? ie...do you avoid moving objects? Love the site and check it daily...it is very very inspiring.

comment by h2okatcher at 05:59 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

I feel like a child again! :O) Love it!

It really jumps out from the background. I love your HDR images.

comment by djn1 at 08:20 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

Thanks everyone, I thought this was fun too.

comment by Hank at 10:51 PM (GMT) on 13 March, 2006

This is obviously a fake dinosaur. Anyone can take a picture of a fake non moving dinosaur, that's easy. Methinks you should try your hand at photographing a real one sometime, it's definitely not a cakewalk.

comment by Maran at 10:27 AM (GMT) on 14 March, 2006

I like this HDR. Looks much more natural than your previous HDR posts :-)

comment by tetsu at 11:36 AM (GMT) on 14 March, 2006

Sometimes your choice of subject, confuses and annoys but sometimes, well, you shoot this sort of thing and the pot noodle was great too. I love the swirls in the sand, amazing...

comment by Judith Polakoff at 03:14 PM (GMT) on 17 March, 2006

Great subject and angle; I'm surprised you didn't get around to photographing this before. The yellows and color of the clouds look a bit odd, but otherwise I think the lighting looks more natural in this HDR shot. Nice one!

comment by Beth at 02:46 AM (GMT) on 20 March, 2006

Can you explain HDR to a newbie?

Thanks!
