These signs appear all along the seafront at Blackpool: on sliproads and steps down to the beach. In summer they're taken down during low-tide, but at this time of year they tend to be left in place. Oh, and the title refers to the fact that I've put a couple of these up before: this one and this one.

On a totally unrelated matter: I wonder if anyone could tell me where I can get hold a B+W 113 neutral density filter with a 77mm thread. I've been trying to track down one of these in the UK since before Christmas, but with no luck – mostly because nobody seems to be importing them at the moment. So, if anyone does know of somewhere where I could pick one of these up (either in the UK or further afield) I'd be really grateful if you could let me know.

Thanks to a comment from cj I've now managed to order the filter from Germany.

A nice trompe d'oeil, which took me a moment or two to decipher. I like the horizontal division and the way foreground and background planes of focus appear to be mirrored, but also inverted, in both halves.

Eye-pleasing symmetry on the reflection; leads you right to that strong yellow.

I may be able to help, how much you willing to pay. Considering you have been looking for rather a while, that is. Email me.

Nice. This one really pops.

Am I right in thinking you've taken this one before? I'm too lazy to go through the archives myself at the moment.

paflechien: thanks, I'll check them out.

tobias: the going rate ;-)

Matt: not this one, but they're all pretty similar.

Ah, the Canute of Blackpool! A great mirror image shot; what's clear in one half is confused in the other. Super stuff.

Delicious. I like much. I congratulate to you.

Hey, I've been comming by to see your blog everyday for the past month or so. I am quite impressed. I also love photography and just started my own photoblog. It's a nice feeling to post and share my little slices of life. I lived in Noordwijk aan Zee, Netherlands for a year. It was right by the coast so you images form the beach and the ocean bring me back to my sea side days. That's all for now, come by my blog if youhave time. I would love some comments. Andrea

A fitting image after what happened in Blackpool today.

A great shot.

I love the way the yellow stands out.

Good luck on your hunt for the filter.

This shot works since it's pin sharp - well captured.

comment by noushin at 01:47 AM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Reflection is what make this shot. And I love how the bottom part of the sign is getting lost in the ripples.

Speedgraphic(.co.uk) used to say that they could get any B+W filter. Don't know whether that is still the case.

Schneider Germany say that Daymen international in Wolverhampton is the UK B+W importer, but their website doesn't mention the fact. I know this because I was after something equally obscure recently. I didn't need to pursue Daymen because a friend got what I wanted in New York.

If your german is up to it then foto-huppert.de claims to be the ultimate B+W shop. I've dealt with them in the past and they speak english by email (I've just looked out of curiousity and they are listing the filter you want for 79 euros).

What are you planning to do with a filter factor of 10,000?!!

comment by Matthew Greco at 05:30 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

good eye on this one!

comment by lee at 06:41 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

comment by djn1 at 07:53 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Thanks everyone.

cj: thanks for the link - I've ordered the filter. As for what I'm going to do with it: you'll have to wait and see ;-)

lee: I like these signs. Besides, there are at least another 20 of them that I haven't photographed yet ;-)

I love the absurd message of the sign on this location. Well captured as always.
