I don't have a great deal to say about this one other than that it's pretty much a straight shot with some minor tweaking of Curves and colour balance.

Wow Dave that's awesome! Great motion capture with the water, which just totally makes this. Love it! :)

yes yes yes!! Great shot. With these shutterspeeds you see thing that you can't see with your eyes.

comment by Jonathan at 08:21 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

I have to say that this is probably my favourite of the 4 keep out shots. Just how the water is interacting with the sign rather than just sitting there above the water and sand.

comment by Matt Simpson at 08:21 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Great motion, and the yellow really stands out. Cool.

comment by nuno f at 08:27 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Now I understand the reason of the "Keep Out" signs. Beautifully captured. :-)

comment by Xavier at 08:30 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Keep glup, glup out.

Very inspired shot

comment by ROB at 08:55 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

The note that this is minor tweaking really surprises as the whites are so white and that chain is so dark. Even more so as the exposure bias was not adjusted at all.

Definitely perfect timing with the shutter.

It may be "pretty much a straight shot", but the way the foam is captured is absolutely beautiful. There is something very artistic going on with the foam that reminds me of dancers intertwined with each other. It would be interesting to isolate the water and foam and see what patterns nature can provide. You could probably shoot a hundred frames and only get one that works, but it goes to show the randomness, power, and beauty of nature. Good shot.

comment by Cil at 09:19 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

who said photography had to be still ? this one is moving a lot ! Bravo !

comment by Caryn at 09:22 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Excellent capture! I LOVE the surf--looks as if it's dancing. And the colors are terrific.

comment by thukai at 09:33 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

When I look at your shots I almost always wonder about how you do it. If this is a strait shot, how do you make the different colours stand out so great? Well captured, and definitely well seen.

comment by chiara at 09:36 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Amazing shot! I'm wondering how many times you tried to take this picture before getting a nice shot like this one? Was it just a lucky shot or perhaps you had another image in mind and this turned out instead? This is my favourite too of keep out shots.

comment by djn1 at 09:42 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Just to clarify: when I said this was a relatively straight shot what I meant was that it wasn't an HDR, there was no selective masking, and so on. I did use Curves, Hue/Saturation and Selective Color, but not in a particularly dramatic way.

comment by Viking at 09:49 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Perfect exposure on this one :) Great action shot

comment by bmoll at 11:49 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

This one's incredible - the level of detail and the colour (many blues/cyans with that yellow, they do correspond together). Technically perfect. I wonder whether it was hard to get those sea colours to such an attractive.. form. The RAW must have been rather pale (?). Well done!

comment by jgarcía at 11:58 PM (GMT) on 2 April, 2006

Good snapshot. My congratulations.

comment by JD at 12:08 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Lovely shot ;)
Makes me wonder who the signs for? Us or the water???

comment by Maddox at 12:20 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Bravo. This is one of my favorites! Something magical in that foam.

comment by Bob at 12:48 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

First off, I really like this recent "theme". All (four) are interestingly unique and nicely done.

In an unrelated matter, I have a question about the Blackpool beach, the location of so many of your shots...

I believe there's a sea wall that runs pretty much the length of the Promenade, with step-downs (like this) to the beach below. I recognize many of your shots from along this Promenade and of many shots of the piers from the beach. Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering how long a window of time you have to shoot between high and low tides when the water comes up against the wall, or its it a case where during seasonal changes there's a dramatic difference in how far up against the wall the tides reach?

Just trying to visualize the challenges. Thanks!

David,

Well done. I nice airy/light minded shot.

Fantastic shot! Well done. Great colour balance and movement.

comment by Fellow Eskimo at 02:31 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Its very defined, and I like that. It has more 'feel' to it than yesterdays shot. Nice work.

Wow. How many shots did that take to get?

comment by micki at 04:03 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

I love how milky the foamy water appears. Wonderful capture of that splash.

comment by Apsen at 04:36 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

I hate when the waves don't listen.

comment by Kelly at 04:43 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Very nice!

comment by Sharla at 07:08 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Now I get it!

I've enjoyed your other "Keep Out" shots but now I even understand why it says to keep out.

Love the crop, the surf's action, the colors, the DOF that concentrates the eye, and the brightness of it all without blowing any of the whites.

comment by eterisk at 09:06 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

I like this better than the one from the day before. The waves, soft and creamy like against the hard sign with hard colour. A great capture.

comment by David [mondaymorningphoto.com] at 09:12 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

I was watching an Episode of Red Dwarf last night - series 5, 'Quarantine'... where Lister is injected with the positive 'luck' virus and successfully picks all 4 aces from a deck of cards. I think you must have a supply of it next to your coffee jar or something - perhaps you use it instead of sugar?!

Anyway, a great freshness to this shot David, I love it. Now to catch up on the ones I missed over the weekend... *click* *click* *click*... oh, I'll just say it here while this comment window's open... they're all great!

Have a great week, and take it easy!
David.

comment by Sam at 09:46 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Nice one. I like the yellow colour on the white. Strong picture!

comment by Alastair Bryce at 09:51 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

You did a really good job with this - I love how you've frozen the motion and your timing in taking this shot. The splash (excuse the pun) of colour really helps too...

comment by SteveO at 10:34 AM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Thats ace, my favourite of your keep out signs definately. It has a really nice soft feel, which contrasts nicely with what i know about the sea in that area (if you get what i mean), great stuff.

comment by m at 12:07 PM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Fab, love the foam

comment by emma at 01:15 PM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

my fave 'keep out' sign of yours too! i just love that foam, and having seen your other 'keep out' signs, i can tell what it says without seeing it all of it if that makes sense! cool!

comment by Maran at 01:35 PM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

Good shot. Like the clarity.

comment by john at 01:49 PM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

This photograph reminded me of a photo that I never took. It was a tall sign that was almost completely submerged and it said "Choice Building Lots for Sale".

comment by Francesco at 03:01 PM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

wonderful photo, it catches the eye

comment by djn1 at 05:34 PM (GMT) on 3 April, 2006

I have kep't a constant vigilence on your Photoblog now for a good few months and this shot made me break my silence.
It is probably one of my favourties of all the great images you have posted here for us to share with you...
The whole colour, compostion and sense of motion captured in this image is excellent and I like it a lot.
