I'm putting this one up early as a) I'm still not overly pleased with yesterday's effort, and b) I'm knackered: mostly from staying up too late postprocessing yesterday's shot (and the several million extra versions), but also because our two eldest and my wife seem to have some sort of stomach bug. They all seem to be on the mend – Camilla's now downstairs on the settee, Amirah is asleep, and my wife is dozing – but they weren't particularly well last night.
So, given that I only had around three hours sleep last night I thought I'd put this one up while I'm still awake enough to type ;-)
Oh, and if anyone's interested I added a graffiti category to my entries, a gallery of which can be seen here:

Hope they are feeling better.
I really like the colours in this. At first I thought it was a shadow.

Very good tones.
When you gotta go you gotta go.

Great tonal range. The composition is good as always.
Hope they feel better quickly.

In the icon looks like it's someone's shadow. Colors and lighting are great, I am glad you included that left wall in the image it helps it.

Hi Dave, we had one of those stomach bugs here in Norway a couple of weeks ago. I guess it takes a while to swim over the ocean? ;)
Now, about the picture:
as always; lovely, nice color range. Very sharp!
comment byluminouslens at 05:52 PM (GMT) on 17 April, 2006
I really like this one. I especially like the shallow DOF you used here, making the wall on the left blurry. It looks less like a snapshot like this and gives me the feeling of standing close to the corner and focusing my attention on the shadow.
comment byPaul at 05:57 PM (GMT) on 17 April, 2006
I love the colours and agree with luminouslens RE: the left wall , but I would have been VERY tempted to spray paint a toilet under him!
comment byIoannis at 06:08 PM (GMT) on 17 April, 2006
I've been seeing the photographs you posted lately and notice that you must be going through some busy times. This one stands out for being much better.
I really like the colour and composition. I wonder what 3x2 in the category means.
comment byJeet at 06:13 PM (GMT) on 17 April, 2006
Good colors. nice lighting :-)
comment bydjn1 at 06:24 PM (GMT) on 17 April, 2006
Ioannis: 3x2 is the aspect ratio of the shot. I've recoded all my entries to include this data.

I really love the subtle gradients of colors here. Nice.

I don't know... I've enjoyed most of your graffiti shots, but this one is missing something for me... Man On Toilet, Sans Toilet :)

this is actually my favorite of all the photos in this new gallery. not ONLY because i adore the title, which was icing on one hell of a cake.

I'm not sure which I like better - the photo or the incredibly apt title.
comment byRobert at 09:07 PM (GMT) on 17 April, 2006
Like the vignette; it defines the feel of looking from shadow to a lit area, matching up well with the title.

Wonderful composition here.......amazing the color that hides in dark corners, isn't it?

An interesting bit of graffiti actually. In the sStates, you seldom see such a subtle image. Wondering what sort of lighting illuminated the wall. Seems like artificial light, sodium B or something of that sort. As always great composition and post processing.
Sometimes I worry about the amount of time I hear people putting into processing images for their blogs...
They are only blogs after all...
While everyone is post processing their images trying to get something out of a "so so" image, they may as well go out with their camera for a couple of hours and shoot something better... or atleast try to...
While sometimes I think you can rescue an image with post processing, I think that in most cases its probably better for most to concentrate on the basics or even try and figure out some sort of direction they want their work to go... or atleast what they want from it
I recently tried the pic a day thing that you do so wonderfully, but felt the pressures too easily and basically packed it in within a few days.
Sorry for the rant... sorry to offend if I have pepes

I know that this is maybe a day late, but I am curious as to how you got the colors on the wall, is it a gradient overlay or something? I'd love to see the original if it's a lot different.
Thats very cool, I like the differnet colors and the shadow is "hot, hot, hot!"!

Ok, I've come back to this. I think (assuming I'd had the wit to see it in the first place) I would have cropped the left hand side off (to the left of the wall angle).
The rest of it suggests the fire and shadow you allude to in the title more to me. (Does that make sense or am I drunk?)
