This was taken at the same time as this one, way back in September of last year. It's not the most striking portrait I've ever posted, not by some margin, but I do like his expression.
Anyway: I had hoped to get out today to shoot some new material, but have been totally snowed under – hence the archive raiding. Hopefully, work and the weather permitting, I should have some free time tomorrow afternoon. But, if not, then I'll probably be foraging around in my very sparse archives again tomorrow.

My first comment on your website. I've been following your pictures closely, and there's not one of them i don't like. This summer i plan to buy me an Eos 350D, and take up photography. Because of you! If i get half as good as you, i'll be very pleased with myself.
Today's picture is really great. I've watched it for about 10minutes, and i keep on noticing details. This is something that happens to me almost every day.

Great portrait! Your portrait shots are going to get me in trouble. I really want to get an external flash for my camera now. Looking at the 480EX personally, cause it's a little cheaper and I'm not sure I need the features of the 580EX. Not too sure yet though.

I have to agree. His expression is something out of this world. I look at him and I see a happy man with great wisdom. Hope the weather permit that you take good photos tomorrow. How's Libby doing?

You've done a nice job capturing unique and telling expressions in each of your recent subjects. Question: I've noticed "FEC" from time to time in your exposure bias data. What's that?

Hi, David
I've been watching chromasia for quite a long time now. You've got some great images here.
As for this particular one - the DOF is not quite shallow enough, IMO. Maybe a 70-200 f2.8 is would be a good investment ;)

Nice shot, I love the expression. It's like he's about to say "Oh! wait wait, let me brush my beard once". The background is also quite nice.
Does anyone know why the beard, that grows 14-15 years after hair on head turns grey first.

Nice tones and I like the subject placement, not sure about the mid sentence expression, it seems to me not the perfect moment..
You inspire me ... I am plotting and planning ways to get me a canon eos 350D. I come to your page and I just want to get out there again ... I Love today's shot!!

I just love the lighting, his face is brighter than the wall, it works a treat.

Good subject, and expresion but I think the praise is a little over zealous. Once of your less less inspiring portraits, centre composed landscape aspect with the subject flat on a detailed backgroud. I could have taken this!

Nice portrait. I like the colors. His lips have the same color like the bricks in the background.
Thanks all, but I'm inclined to agree with 'm' in that I think you've been a little over-generous in your praise for this one.

I don't know about 'wisdom' - can't see where that comes from, just because of a religious appearance - but he looks a nice fella with a few tales to tell.

It's a good portrait, but not an outstanding effort by your standards David (better than I could mamange), but saying that I do like the brick background work..

Nice portrait. It looks as though he is about to spout words of wisdom.

David, I really like your recent move toward people. The expression on this man's face is obvious and subtle simultaneously.
agree with mark, beautiful portraits.....congratulations!
very interesting, this mood
this really is going back quite a bit isn't it!!!!
I like the portrait regardless of the guys expression.
I think it would have liked to have seen the detail in the wall along with the guy tho.
I'm glad to see the move back to portraiture as others have mentioned :D
i cant imagine that you would have a "sparse" archive.
i guess u made the photograph in the middle of his wisdom phrase...
Good portret ...love the contrast with the background...very good as always
