I don't have a great deal to say about this one other than that it's pretty much what I was after.
An interesting side-point though: when Camilla and I sat down and went through these shots her immediate reaction to this one was "my [right] hand's too straight". And I can see what she means (and don't think it matters) but it surprised me that she would react to such a small compositional point. With a bit more training I'll probably be able to send her out with the camera and just concentrate on post-processing the shots she comes back with ;-)

Love the colours in the water and the frozen splashes. If you hadn't commented on the hand position I'm not sure I would be conscious of it at all. Great composition.

What a big splash she has made! i guess some things run in the family then. :)
I like this shot.. The blues/greens look good as does the action and the 'frozen' water splashes/droplets, an incredible and accurate point made by your daughter about the hand , an arch or curve would or mimicking of the left hand would have afforded the image more poise and grace.. kids never cease to amaze with their eye for detail.. The explosive nature of the impact on the water is really impressive
A giant emerging from the depths... reminds me of The Attack of the 50ft Woman; guess it's something to do with the size of the splash playing with my minds scale of things. Another great shot - my fav of the three.

Although I'm usually a sucker for colour, in this case I prefer the previous two. I'm also with Camilla on this one - I immediately noticed the 'straight' hand. To me it seems a little disjointed from the rest of the image and disturbs the wonderful spontaneity and freedom of the rest of the picture.
Having said all that, and if it seems I'm being a little too critical, I'd be well chuffed if I'd taken it!
The vibrancy all round does it for me. The movement coupled with those colours. Marvelous.

Very good timing. It looks like she's having a lot of fun.

Great shot! and very cool that she is starting to see composition in pictures.. mistake on your camera data it says (819mm equiv.) fyi
I know you meant 189 but I thought I'd point that out
great shot. Nice action capture, stunning blue tones in the water.

I love the capture of the splash, and yes the colour is very nice and strong in it. I wish I could see ALL of her though, I dislike the chopped up look.
would you really just be happy post processing the shots??? I don't think I could ever do that! it would literally do my nut in!
The hand is way tooo weirdly positioned for me... kinda looks like its from another picture or possibly some one floating in the air behind her????
I think I preferred the others... but I do love black and white??? love the water splash on this one tho

David,
I would like to convey you something.
...one dutch photographer, an old chap, one night down at "The North Bar" in Leeds, told me: "Go home and get yours!"
I feel that you are 'at home' with your photography...
Whereas me...well, I've been settling here and there, and home has been nagging me ever since I set off...
PS. today I got my eos 20d (thanks)...I hope I will make it back home.

I really don't mean any offense, but I've noticed from the past few pictures that she has large hands. Or disproportionally large hands compared to her small frame. Or maybe it's just me. Nice shot, reguardless.
The hand doesn't bother me, and the greens in the water are just fantastic, but I also have to say that I liked yesterday's better. I think the motion of the splash is captured well here, but yesterday's had so much more tension it was just stronger overall for me.

I like the composition and the colors. For my taste the image is a bit over-sharpened.

I have an impression that your pictures are degressing in quality (overworked in PS) and the meaning that they are supposed (if they are supposed) to bring. And i am sorry about it, because i used to visit your web site on daily basis.
googa: quality, or the lack of it, is a bit problematic to define, not least because it's estimation is often conflated with personal preference, at least to an extent. If you have the time I'd be interested to hear which of my shots you would consider to be better than my recent stuff.

i agree with what you wrote above on personal preferences. So, from my point of view these works are excellent:
there are a lot(!) more of your works that i really love, i hope you don't hate me for the "critics" :), i really respect you for what you 'er doing, moreover, your site is the reason why i bought my 20d, so keep going and all the best!
googa: I'm happy that people critique my work, so don't worry about any negative comments you might have about my recent stuff. Two things strike me about your choices though: first, six of them contain people (and my recent work has been more to do with inanimate objects, of one sort or another), and second, I'm not sure that I'd consider those to be better or worse than my current shots. They're different, but personally I don't think they're of a higher quality.
One other observation, and this ties back to your first comment, all of the seven shots you picked were photoshopped quite extensively, albeit in a way that's quite different to my recent stuff.
I guess the bottom-line here, as with all art, is that we have different views as to what's good and what's not, and I'm quite happy for people to discuss that here.

And yes, I was impressed that she commented on the composition, not least because it wasn't something I'd noticed, at least not consciously.
Lokks like great fun to jump into the water :-)

I love the energy within the image and the gorgeous colours of it too! I really could see this as an advert for Thomson holidays or something ;)
I have to say that this is the best. I definitely prefer the colour version. The splash makes it even more dynamic
Awsome shot. I love the color in this.
Mmm yes the hand is an issue here...
But a great colourful capture nonetheless.
it's great!
So how much trouble did the two of you get in coming home soaking wet?
normally i'm just quietly inspired by your photos but i really love this one so had to comment. Superb colours and energy
Water looks so cool, when it get captures like this. Very good job! Kudos!
Thanks all :-)

I like the way the right hand is straight. I tried to imagine the picture without it, and it didn't seem so good.
It gives the feeling that time has really stopped. I love it!
