I've run out of current stuff to put up again so yesterday evening I went through a folder of stuff I put aside last summer. When I looked through them I could see why I hadn't posted most of them, but this one seemed ok. The sky is probably a bit 'busy', but other than that I'm not sure why this one got overlooked at the time.
Anyway, I've got some free time tomorrow so should be able to come up with some new material

David, this is very different for you and I think it's really a strking image. I think the hues make the sky less 'busy' than you describe.

Dramatically amazing! The colors in the sky are just fabulous and the sense of peace is always welcome. Glad you found this photo in your folder. :-9

A lovely shot, the processing is wonderful, the rolling waves lead nicely into the image which is very evocative...

Different take on a sunset which is nice. Lots of blue in the shot which usually isn't present in most other sunset shots. That said, I'm nota big fan of sunset shots. In my opinion they are one of those "over photographed" subjects. Not that I haven't popped a few sunset shots myself. ;)
I like this. The water looks like snow which is disconcerting yet makes the image all the more interesting. Great cloud formation (cirrus in the middle?) and of course colours.
There is something curious made by the textures of the waves and the way the sky responds to it. The impression of peace is really stuning ... belle image !

I think this is probably one of your finest shots that I have ever seen posted up here on your Photoblog...
It is magical.

This reminds me of "the last sun" and "paul's sunset"
:-)
m: how bizarre, I was just looking at both of those (the last sun and Paul's sunset) and realised that that's why I didn't post this one at the time; i.e. it was very similar to both, and not as good as either of them.
comment byAndre Malagodi at 11:14 PM (GMT) on 4 July, 2006
Lovely shot Dave. Is this Blackpool? Could just as easily be Sri Lanka. The organised layers of the sea offset the flaymboyance of the sky, symbolic of Itlay's performance in defence and attack tonight (sorry for the flagrant jingoism) but what a game (and photo)! Not to mention the blending of azzuri and gold, ok I'll stop now...

David, please add this one to the list of the pictures i love ;)

one of the most mesmerising chromasia shots. A pleasant change.
comment by Sharla at 12:59 AM (GMT) on 5 July, 2006
A lovely shot! I see your comment to m that it's not as good as the two you mentioned but I think it has elements that help it stand alone. The sky has many layers of light depending on the angles from the sun and it is less "organized."
The element that I like most in this shot is the scaled surface of the water and the resultant hue of each scale. It is almost biological.
Cropping the shot to eliminate more of the sky and to emphasize the water is a dramatic, powerful panaramic image that stands against your other two rather well, I think. Of course, I know your feelings on such strong cropping when it wasn't your original intent but I had fun with it.

Beautiful shot. I don't think the sky is too busy. Dramatic yet calming.
I like the busy sky. In Seoul, the sky is busy so rarely; it's quite boring to look at most days. Also, you're a son-of-a-bitch for processing photos in such pretty ways. I'm envious.

I love the vibrant colors as well as the texture on the water.

As a photoshop user I think this photo is a fake. Correct me, if I´m wrong. On the other hand, painters do what ever they like and nobody makes a fuzz of it. ;-)

The way you use blues and oranges, and the tones you get from those colours, are always superb. I think I need to investigate property prices up there in Blackpool!
Beautoful shot as usual - well done.

yesterday taiwan had the same cloud view.
very beautiful.
but i didn't shot the photo. it's a pity.
It would be interesting if you posted the original image so we could compare it with the final. This is not meant to devalue the final image in any way, I am just interested in the process. My PS skills are rudimentary at best and I am always looking for ways to improve them.

Just checking but this is England right? It looks like some tropical island with all that colour and stunning sunset. I was visiting England this spring (May actually - the wettest one in 20 years) and it didn't look anythink like that. Well done.
Oh, please, some of us would kill to get such a great shot!
(Seriously, though, great colors. I would have loved to see a long-exposure version of this!)

Awsome evening shot. I love the colors.
I agree, this one is definitely a keeper.
Lovely colors!
Stunning colors and some nice textures in the clouds.
That´s a sunset at it´s best. Fantastic colors and fantastic mood :-)
This is fantastic! One of the best sunsets I have evere seen. Not busy at all.
If there was something more than magical, this is it.
GREAT GREAT GREAT SHOT!

i wish i had stuff like this just sitting around in a folder....
I second Ash's comment... fantastic shot
If only the sky could be a little bit calmed, it would make a breathtaking picture. Nevertheless, it's really dramatic & amazing.
Thanks everyone :-)
I would have a hard time not remembering I had a shot like this lying around in the archives. This is beautiful.

hot damn, gorgeous shot.. those oranges, wow.
one of the best ive seen.
Superb pics.
I use great pics on my site, although it is actually about relief from back, neck and shoulder pain.
Would any of your photos be available for use on my site, where I sell nothing, but I do have surprisingly informative Google ads.
Please advise.
