I was going to go out today, but by the time I got home from work it was over 90°F so I decided it was a bit too hot to go out.

What tones!

comment by Tibs at 09:21 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

Nice calm shot

comment by matt at 09:24 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

No offense, but I for one am happy for the change of pace. The car photos, while striking, just we're doing it for me. This photo seems much calmer - maybe its just the weather, but calmer seems better these days.

Very restful and well framed, the processing also enhances the image, love the tones..

comment by wesley hargrove at 09:48 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

very nice. i absolutely love the gentleness of it.

comment by John Washington at 09:59 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

There's something about it Dave. I like it a lot. I agree with Matt, in that the cars were good and surely met the brief, but I don't personally think that you or in fact anyone could really better the studio shots that we are so used to seeing of glossy supercars.

Back to this shot. It seems very fresh and makes me wish I had taken it.

I really like the muted colours of this, the TVR photos were a bit too colourful for my liking but fitted well with the subject

comment by EssPea | Photography at 10:25 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

Very nice color fade from washed blue to washed yellow. DOF is spot on as well.

comment by Chris Pittock at 10:40 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

90F? That's a very small apeture 8-)

comment by JM at 10:42 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

This one talks both to the soul and the spirit
A beautiful music ...
Really Great.

comment by Andre at 11:01 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

Gorgeous shot, I love the darkness of the sky in the upper right corner, may I ask if that was out-of-the box or burnt in?

comment by Tristan at 11:05 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

Nice composition.

comment by Fellow Eskimo at 11:42 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

I love the detail and composition...but why must you use such boring subjects? Poles, buckets, televisions....

comment by jgarcía at 11:58 PM (GMT) on 19 July, 2006

Beautiful colours and composition, David.

Thanks to show it !

Mighty powerful shot, lovely composition and the tones are just perfect!

so pretty... i needed to see something cool and calming like this

A+! Congrats!

comment by Ben at 04:37 AM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Wonderful shot! I love the peaceful, calm feeling of this photo.

comment by Kyle at 04:55 AM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Absolutely beautiful. But I don't see it as quite so "calm" and "serene". I feel like the "post-creatures" have invaded, and their ring leader has come to question me.

comment by sach1tb at 06:08 AM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

wah-wah! great!

comment by Michael B. at 07:43 AM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Dear Dave,
My name is Michael. I am 20 years old and live in California. I have followed your work for a very long time and have enjoyed it very much. It would be nothing short of accurate to say your work is inspiring.

I, too, have a daily photoblog as a component of my myspace. If you have the time of day, I would appreciate any feedback you might offer. It is a "friends only" photoblog, so you will have to open an account and add me to view it...but I would love the critique of someone I hold so highly.

Thank you for your time and your work, and I apologize for such a lengthy comment!

comment by Mike at 08:10 AM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Nice composition and tonality with a muted colour palette. It would be interesting to also consider a crop of the picture with some of the RHS cropped out - I find the absence of a further post and continuation of the wire on the RHS slightly disconcerting! Great image though and definitely more serene than the TVRs.

comment by San Sebastian at 09:50 AM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Great composition and perfect colours tonality.
Other great Job ;)

nice shot

comment by PlasticTV at 12:48 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Great tones reminiscent of the great American prairies and all things free and wild. :) Heard about the heat wave hitting Europe too. Do take care!

comment by navin harish at 02:00 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

the DOF and the colour treatment of this pic is quite nice

comment by Crank at 02:29 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

I like this shot, a lot! bring out the colour of the wheat a bit more and it'll be close to perfection...just not there now.

comment by DAVE at 05:01 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Simple but textured. I love it.

comment by Phu! at 05:54 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Dave, we run in 90 degrees weather. (Arizona, US) Usually we hope the next day here doesn't go pass 110. I think we're the only ones not affected by the heat wave because we usually range above heat wave temperatures.

But in UK, whew that is hot.

I have to say, I'm not digging this picture. Of course it stands leaps and bounds above some of my pictures.

Perhaps a better painting than photo this picture can make.

comment by Roy at 08:17 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Hmmm...posts. I like posts.
There is something a little ritualistic about these, like stonehenge, arranged for some purpose now lost.

comment by djn1 at 08:49 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Thanks all :-)

Chris: :-)

Andre: I added a vignette.

Fellow Eskimo: what exciting objects would you suggest?

Michael B: when I've got a bit of free time I'll stop by.

Mike: I did try a square cropped version of this one, but I decided that I quite liked the blank space at the right of the image.

Crank: thanks, but it's grass, not wheat.

Roy: yes, it was the arrangement that caught my eye.
