We went up to Morecambe today, but the light was terrible (very bright but hazy) and Morecambe was ..., well, no disrespect to its inhabitants, but it was as difficult to photograph as on my previous visits. So, it's back to archive raiding this evening, albeit from fairly recently.

Holes are good sometimes.

I like the concept, the composition and the depth of field . Perhaps there could be a bit more oomph in the contrast? Impressive work as always.

Yes I like the shape to the stone. Nicely pitted and interestng shape. Nice composition too

comment by Loop at 10:05 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

I have nothing against the shape of the crop, but I'm not very keen on having to scroll to see the whole image. I prefer to see it all in one go (which, of course, is far easier with a landscape orientation).

Initially I thought this was a damaged sundial, like some of the other flotsam you seem to come across.

Interesting looking further in to the image and seeing what it really is.

comment by rj at 10:10 PM (GMT) on 20 July, 2006

Looks like a sundial, but not a sunny day.

David, you need to work on your "title" skills. Untitled #0028 doesn't give this image credit. I love your detail shots, no matter if its litter or one of natures creatures like this one :) I like how the DOF lets only this stone be in focus.

I wish my archives were this rich! I like this image a lot, because, as ROB mentioned, it looks like a sundial. The rusty colored wood matches the rocks on the beach nicely too.

I certainly have no problem seeing this in one go. Even if I went down a resolution or 2 I'd still see it all no problem. I'd also imagine as time passes that people will get away from using 800X600 or 1024X768 monitors and then this image size here will stand the test of time. I like the cropping and composition. I'm a fan of Joe Cornish's work which is done on in square format. I think there could be a fuller range of tones in the image though, it seems to be lacking in the highlights.

comment by Robert at 12:57 AM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

Love the tone-- looks like a lost artifact from a fantasy adventure.

There's a certain mood over the image. The "moon rock" in the foreground looks like the shadow element on a sundial. Lovely muted colors. Very moody shot.

I agree with last comment. It really looks like a moonrock :-) Good capture

Great shot, quite similar to the earlier pebbles shot except for the corroded pebble in focus which I find very creepy and uncomfortable to look at.

comment by dave at 08:10 AM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

I like the natural, earthy tones in this..

comment by Jeppe at 09:43 AM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

When the sun is out, shoot in the shadows.

Anyhow - great shot, beautiful colors.

This is an eery shot...

Both subject matter as well as the colour tone make this a very interesitng photograph.

comment by nature boy at 12:02 PM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

looks like a natural sun dial

comment by Craig at 01:49 PM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

Love the background, I love the cloud look.

comment by Crank at 02:15 PM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

Back on the beach are we? Well, the colour scheme is calming and puts me in a decent frame of mind. Nicely framed.

comment by sach1tb at 03:14 PM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

aha .. the fifth element.. nice dof!!

comment by Mary at 04:14 PM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

There's so much I like about this pic. Depth of field, background, the sundial look, contrast, the colors of the background rocks against the water and sky. Nice. Very nice.

comment by andresbortnik at 04:34 PM (GMT) on 21 July, 2006

cool texture.

That´s quite nice but I think you had several picture like that, nothing really impressing to me. Sorry
