I would have preferred a few more megapixels for this one – the detail in the high-res' version is a bit scant for some of the figures – but I think it's an interesting shot nonetheless: taken from Blackpool's North Pier, facing south.

Hmm I wonder what's missing after you converted to sepia. The playfulness seems a little warped with this partciular toning. Very interesting photo nonetheless with people of all ages and their particular style of recreation =]

I like how the line of people follow the curve of the wave (only natural I guess).
Anvi: the colours in the original were rather flat/harsh so I decided to tone this one.
PIXEL VIKING: yes, sadly ;-)

Evocative shot & great tones, Dave. Have you been in the Grundy Gallery recently? There's a current exhibition of work by John Gay taken in Blackpool dating back to the late 40's: this shot would serve as an interesting contemporary comparison.

Super shot.

Yet another fantastic monochrome. You captured what appears to be a fun day at the beach quite well.
comment byScott at 01:43 AM (GMT) on 23 July, 2006
This is one of my favorite shots (for the last couple of weeks at any rate). The toning and overall composition are very much reminiscent of a bygone photographic era - but the processing is a very fresh update of sorts. Great work as always.

Lowry's mill-workers' annual summer excursion...(when no-one's looking at the paintings they're in).
(Comment prompted mostly by that couple half way down, walking into the left frame)

a lot of things going on in the shot but the diagonal brings it together. i like the running kid with the ball.

This feels a bit like a very old photo to me, Good choice to keep some detail in the shadows and stop short of blacks!

I look at this beach and then I look at this beach and realise the problems to a to high population.
Beach life :-) The beaches around here have also been crowded these past few day because of the great weather. Hope it lasts until my vacation! :-) But very nice photo.

A tranquil monochromatic shot. i think it's the silhouette figures that make the picture work. It'd look great on the wall of a cafe, by the way.
this reminds me of an artist who drew scenes with lots of people(basic stick-ish figures.) in them...i remember scenes of playgrounds and industrial scenes,
i cannot remember the artist though :(

Some things never change. No matter what decade or century. People are having a good time! Nice photo!

That´s interesting... you can watch people and you´ll see everybody is doing something different.
I like the tone.
This is a great shot. The tone is great; it could have been taken any time.

This is a really beautiful composition and image.

Again, it comes down to a singular gesture in a wide frame with a lot to look at that anchors a picture. the little boy lower right makes the photo. Without it'd be much less interesting to me. Good balance across the picture but the toning does seem a little weird.

Great shot! The toning, which i like a lot, gives it a timeless feel. This could be from yesterday or from 50 years ago.
I love the width and mood of this shot. I haven't commented in many moons, but I find this shot to be a priceless moment.
very well done. love the tones and shades. keep it coming!
nice pic - creates an interesting emphasis on the 'direction' of all the activity going on

It's like a photographic Lowry!
David, did you use a tripod?
Cheers!
You've captured an image that represents the recent heatwave nicely. Great shot.
cool one!
A lovely image and it could be from any era. I was looking at your post for weeklyshot.org
They are what I consider quintessential Chromasia. As is this image.
