First: thanks for all the great comments on yesterday's shot. It's definitely one of my recent favourites so it was great to see it get such a good response.
As for this one: it's almost a year old now, and I haven't posted it before because I wasn't happy with the post-processing. This version, I like, though I suspect it may well get a mixed reaction. Let me know what you think.

I love it, very intense eyes. The unusual colouring works well for me.

Name it "oh, she looked up" LOL

She looks terribly upset about something. I can just imagine how beautiful this pic might have looked in full color but the blue color gives it a very creepy look. Nice work Dave.
A little unsharp, but the eyes and lips say it all. You have beautiful children and they seem to love the attention that they are getting. Just the way it should be, I guess. It's a mystery to me, how some of the kids have very dark hair and this one is very blond. Have you ever thought about that ;D ;D ;D.

Looks almost "ghostlike" in its tones, is she annoyed @ Daddy for some reason?

Hello David .
This image is intense and not in my opinion. The lack of sharpness reduces it ... Sorry for that hard words but I have seen much better images from you... What I like here is the colour-treatment of the shadows. This adds some feeling if aggressivity. I like her eyes straight, too. Greetings from Germany, Martin
I like it, looks better from a little distance, (i think because of the eyes being slightly blurred) and the colour finnishes it off nicely
As to the footnote, congratulations, 1 million words is unbelievable and i was contemplating buying a print anyway, but now as it's more or less buy one get one free i have no choice :)

Congrats on a million words for Chromasia... Probably the greatest photoblog around, in my mind anyway. Back to the reason we are all here, the great shots. This shot tells me ATTITUDE with super capital letters, it looks like the scene before the young girl pulls on her leather jacket and storms out the door - drama and interesting, thanks for a great shot - and btw I don't think oyu need that much blue in the shot, the eyes tell the whole story.

It is no news I love your children pics.Said that, to me, the light and colour of that pic adds a lot to the child mood! Perfect. Cannot think of it in different colour or light. Another example in how daddy and child work well together :) Congratulations.

I think I agree with Martin on this one. I think the loss of sharpness may have taken something away from this one and as he did say we've seen a lot lot better from you.

I like the 'pop art' feel to it. I'm trying to imagine it processed any other way (high key, muted colours, standard mono) and I think this definitely works better than the other methods as it works with the lack of sharpness, rather than against it. Slightly coincidental as the shot I posted today also works better because of the blurring (IMO, naturally). Only I took mine yesterday and didn't go running to the archives like a big, cheating crybaby ;) ...God, I'm such a hypocrite.

How apt that I find a photo of the kind of kid I'm babysitting right now!!
Aside from the previously-mentioned focus, I love it. The blue tone says this kid means business. Maybe crop it to just below the chin too? I like it, though!

I have seen a very similar shot earlier too. I guess in the Photofriday section of yours. Personally I would have liked it a little sharper.

Angry and scary eyes. The color adds to the effect. I like it but agree with the others... I would like to see it sharper, especially the eyes.

i think this image really stretches the playing field for you. it works that its not sharp, it shows movement and between the hair and the eyes and the lips through the center of the frame, movement is exactly what the image needs. the color toning is a solid choice that parallels the facial expression. good stuff
comment byCraig at 05:26 PM (GMT) on 26 July, 2006

if you were shooting with a lack of focus (blur) in mind then you hit it right...otherwise, I'm wondering if the shot could have been crisper? Otherwise, good idea with the colouring as it takes a silly picture and gives it character.

The postprocessing is ok but I woud have a bit sharper.

Thanks everyone. As for the sharpness, or lack of it: it was my intention to produce a sharper image but, in this case, I think it works better this way.

no, no, no! Where is the superb quality? Photo nice, but quality? ehh :P
Very cool image very creepy like something out of a horror movie

I like the color and the mood.
I feel like she's coming out of my monitor ;)
Unique portrait indeed. I think the tones work very well, but I would have liked more sharpness around the eyes.
I really like this. The colouring and the expression are great.
I will take you up on the million word print offer immediately. And nope it will not be the one of you, gold shorts, half down in the portfolio...!
A young Debbie Harry anyone?
