hi there
been visiting the site for awhile. did you just add a feature to disuade people from copying images to their computers? if so, why? also, the urls are still shown in the source.
asdf: no, it's a byproduct of the new navigation; i.e. I'm using a couple of transparent gifs to overlay the image such that I can add a 'previous' and 'next' link to each page.
I think this is one of the best shots I have ever seen.
I am slightly lost for words; It is so obvious why it is great that there doesn't seem much need to explain what I like. There is no superlative, or indeed emoticon, for this.

And thus humans came out of the seas to leave on land..
comment byJamey at 10:36 PM (GMT) on 28 July, 2006
Definitely a very nice shot. Did you know the two people or are the silhouettes hiding the fact that they're looking at you with puzzled expressions, trying to work out why someone's photographing them? Also, have you done much masking or were you able to treat this shot relatively "whole", as it were?
comment byDanielle_SC247 at 10:41 PM (GMT) on 28 July, 2006
Very nice. I love it. Clouds, beach, silhouettes... Can't go wrong. =)

I really don't know how you consistently come up with such great shots. You have an amazing ability to capture moments and great skill in post-processing. I know this has been said a million times before, but good work.
comment bymilou at 11:37 PM (GMT) on 28 July, 2006
That's quite some sky. And I like the little splash in the foreground. I guess these are the people almost stranded in yesterday's shot. Gormleyesque, assuming that such a word exists :p
comment by Deb at 11:41 PM (GMT) on 28 July, 2006
This shot makes me feel sad and as I said before...'wistful'.
It was conceived as part of a series? (with the image of the the boys racing into the sea that you posted the other day?) The former is a perfect pictorial allegory of halcyon childhood....this is ....mournful resignation to the 'end of that golden summer'. :(
I have no idea how 'skilled' they are technically but, even individually, they are poetry. Collectively they are great poetry. (And I hate saying that to you)

Haha cute comment. Sometimes your humour can get so cheesy... in a very funny way. :) Love this low-key image, especially how you preserved details like the splash as foot meets water.

Congratulations on the new site and ventures Dave. The site looks great. I am amazed how far you've come in the last few years, and I've been a very entertained visitor.
As for today's picture, it's first class..
PS> There seems to be a few problems with going backwards by clicking on the pictures. It's not working as it should. (XP SP2, Firefox latest)
Your pics of the Gormley statues are brilliant djn1

I think the positioning angle of the figures make the shot come together (and fit your title.)

David,
This shot is another ounce of proof that your vision with landscape and people photos is top notch. I would hope that you focus more on people and landscapes than rubbish in the gutter; your talent is second to none.
Jamey: no, I didn't know them and they didn't seem too bothered about being photographed. As for masking: yes, there are two masked Curves, one for the foreground and another for the sky.

Hi Dave,
Nice piece of work. The composition is good and luv the color. The tones suited the dark and featureless subjects. Like the way you position `em in this frame.

wow! i'm convinced now! i need a slr...no more bridge for me...super!
First of all, thanks for all your comments on yesterday's shot, they were much appreciated.
Second, thanks again to everyone who's got in touch regarding the tutorials: it's good to see that they're generating some interest.
And finally, I don't have a great deal to say about this one other than that it was taken on the same trip as yesterday's. Let me know what you think.

I really like this image - great toning, use of sihouette and very dramatic skies!
Congratulations on the milestone! Hope you reach many more.
almost creepy, excellent tone
"Aliens are coming!" Very impressive, slightly frightening, strong feeling of "twilight zone"
Reminds me of some sculptures by Gormley that, I think, dissapear as the tide comes in.
Seeing yours and Johns beach shots tells me I should really get down to one and do some of my own.
Great work
Great image with sense of movement and lovely tonality in the sky.
Tibs: I have three shots of Gormley's statues:
Sentinel #1
Sentinel #2
Sentinel #3
I like the sky, a mixture of smooth and hard lines. The solid figures fit in beautifully.
very cool photo! excellent use of contrast
Wow, great shot and perfect title.

My favorite image on this site. It's amazing how you can now develop a whole story around this scene. Great capture.
Incredible with the black border too.
My jaw dropped on the floor the instant I saw it.... love, love, love it!!
