This is a companion shot to this one, and all I really want to say about this one is that unlike its companion this is a toned black and white image.
Update: (I'm posting this after the first eight comments have been posted). This isn't the same photograph as the other one I mentioned; i.e. today's shot isn't a 'version' of the previous one, it's an entirely different photograph.
On another matter: I mentioned that we are going to be offering subscription based tutorials in the near future. If you're interested you can now join our forum where we're starting to discuss some of the relevant issues: content, structure, pricing and so on.

I much prefer this version.
The original had a fantastic reflection but the colours were far too wishy washy to make for the evocative image that a sunset should be (especially since it's become such a photographic cliche).
What I really like is the way that the sun has become white and thus it appears like a setting moon helping to boost the etheral mood created by the wispy clouds, reflection and silhouettes.

This is incredible. I prefer the original over this but this is a tremendous piece of processing.

This is great. I love sunsets and this, without a hint of yellow or red, is something really special and unusual. The people and their reflections add a whole new dimension to it. Be honest though - you paid them to stand in height order with the tallest in the middle! ;-)
I was compelled to praise the companion shot a few days ago, but I definitely prefer this one. I love the all blue tones (perfect for sky and sea) and I especially like the fact that the figures play a more prominent role because they have so much to say. I will be joining the tutorial debate and would like to say that this is another classic combination of excellent composition and clever processing.

wow, its really cool. i like the inifinite abyss that the people seem to be walking right on top of. how much of that blue was visible at the scene (just wondering if all that color is post process) I feel like i can almost see the line between real and fake color with the dark blue and the clouds.

wow - awesome! that is all that needs to be said, i really love the colours.

One word immediately sprang to mind when I saw this....'Shangri-La' (as in the book 'Lost Horizons'). I have no idea why as the book describes a moutain-top Utopia, but this image just summons up the thought of people waiting....actually waiting in a line.... at the threshold of a Utopia. The promise radiant in the skies and making their waiting serene and worthwhile.
Hope the sniffles mend soon.

Nice shot but I find it too similar to the living on the edge (as you mentioned yourself too) Get well son so that you can go out and take some more shots.

The toning is spectacular. You've captured an incredible sky and reflection. The figures make a great focal point to balance out the setting sun. Love it :)
great work with the toning ;) and a brilliant reflection... although it kinda look like its pixelated in comparison to the previos version :S
infact I'm not sure whether a 2x1 crop would be better (would seperate the image from the previos one you mentioned too). just keeping the main focal point (cropped just below the horizon level???)
comment bymooch at 12:53 PM (GMT) on 3 August, 2006
Sorry did I read this correctly, i.e. it was b&w yet now has a splash of colour, namely blue? Lovely processing. I would love to know how this was achieved, subscription free. It works, as it is yet another shiny glassy clean image.
Been a while since I commented Dave with one thing and another - but couldn't resist leaving one for this one. I love the tones, the lovely whispy clouds reflected in the water. It's just lush :)

I've been enjoying this recent series and this one especially, the blues are wonderful and the silhouettes perfect.
comment byD. Tank at 05:51 PM (GMT) on 3 August, 2006
This looks absolutely brilliant. I don't know what's more remarkable: being at this moment of time to capture this place, or standing at the perfect spot to take this shot. I'm curious about how you got the reflection to work. Is it photoshop paintbrush effect, or is it an effect you caught on the camera and just kicked it up a notch in photoshop.
comment byPlasticTV at 06:10 PM (GMT) on 3 August, 2006
Somehow i like this better - for its simplicity perhaps. In this one there isn't those pretty colours of sunset to compete with the silhouettes for attention. And i think you did well to ignore the rule of the thirds here. Placing the breakwater in the centre creates symmetry and further enhances the peaceful mood.

call it a 'different' photograph all you want...changing the colours shouldn't be the only thing you do to a shot. The first one I liked...now it's a rerun on a different colour television.

Thanks everyone.
Deb: thanks, the sniffles have just about gone.
JD: yep, a 2x1 crop would probably have worked too.
mooch: selective colour (particulary the hightlights and midtones) and a Curve.
D. Tank: it's a genuine reflection, but I did bring up the gamma and contrast of the foreground and used Noise Ninja to smooth it out a little.
Crank: thanks. It's a 'different' photograph, it's a 'different' photograph, it's a 'different' photograph ;-)

Great to see a little "moment" (in fact, the whole interaction of the group of people, more so than just the offering hand) in a wide, colorful shot. That definitely is the hook for my eye.. without it this shot would not keep my attention. Nice work

this is a very intriguing shot, reminds me of something but I can't place it at the moment
Incredible. Bravo!
Beautiful - great colous and I just love how you can just see the sun peeking through. Very nice image.
