Some days, photographically speaking, are extremely frustrating.

It was Camilla's 11th birthday today and we went up to Fleetwood beach to shoot a sequence of shots out of which we intended to construct a montage: similar to the one of Harmony I put up a little while ago.

But the light was flat, and short of post-processing them to within an inch of their lives there wasn't much we could do with them. There were a couple that Camilla particularly liked (that I couldn't process to a standard I was happy with), and one I liked, that she hated, so all in all it wasn't a spectacularly successful trip.

So, here's a shot taken on the same trip that doesn't exactly capture the birthday mood. I do like it, but I'm disappointed to not be able to post a shot of Camilla.

We'll try again when we have better light.

The sepia-ish toning works well with this shot.

strange image with beautiful textures, really nice !

The textures are incredibly detailed and the composition worked really well. I'm not so sure about the toning.

Oh... Happy Birthay to Camilla. :-)

I like. The standng post is worn in such a way that it has a sentinel look, ever checking the sea. The various textures, from fragile material, cleaven wood, polished pebbles, to stormy ocean, all work well together. The DOF gives the sentinel great scope. Because I see the post looking to our left, I would have balanced the shot a bit more for that vista. It's always interesting how a shot changes with our individual interpretations. For your interpretation, I'm sure it's spot on!

The poor love! I hope she enjoyed her birthday though :D

This is an amazing shot though. It look so desolate. It reminds me somehow of that over famous photograph of the cow's skull in the desert. A real 'wow' feeling to it.

Really nice detail and toning. The tattered cloth makes me feel like Jack Sparrow will jump into the frame at any second. Well done.

Great shot (like always)! I´ve just started a photoblog, but I´m just learning, nothing to do with yours. I have to say that you´re one of the reasons why I began with the phoblog.

see ya!

Great shot - this is the type of image that got me hooked on the site.

Very Chromasia, the texture and detail dominate for me in particular the torn cloth, great shot

you misspelled disappointed! other than that, picture is cool

I really like the lines in this shot. Particularly those in the wood. Also, for some reason the small area of darkness in the cloud in the upper left really appeals to me, kind of random I suppose.

Sorry about the bad day. This looks like a good place to lay back against the log and take a nap while listening to the water.

Wonderfully rich tones and great composition. This photo tells quite a story!

comment by tamonline at 05:05 PM (GMT) on 31 August, 2006

I like it but maybe theres just one too many textures. That may be my minimalistic mood right now but between the rag, stones and two woods, it seems just a tiny bit too much in the foreground. (In fact, this comment box is covering the stones on the left, and it works more for me.)

Nice, nonetheless.

Love the moody background and sky.
