Here's one of Libby and Finley though I suspect that its appeal may be limited to those of you who a) like very high contrast images, and b) appreciate the peculiarities of small children.
What makes it for me is how he's paused to inspect his wet and sandy foot, though I guess, at his age, every outing is a novelty and every wet and sandy step is worth a moment of contemplation.

Very cute image!
Ah ah... At first I thought the kid was a MONKEY!!!

Count me in the "likes high contrast" camp. I really like this image. What I like about extreme contrast is the simplifying effect: done well, it cuts an image down to the essentials, which is what I think you have done here.

Oh, and yes -- F's body position is classic (perhaps iconic is the word I want?) -- we know at a glance what he's doing, and why, and we can remember seeing countless other little kids doing it, and maybe even doing it ourselves. That's the "essentials" I was talking about.

fantastic silhouettes - and great contrasts. very nice to see the difference in behaviour between the kid and the adult. super shot.

I think it a wonderful image and the contrast is fine with me. My critique would be to have cropped it tighter to give more attention to Finley. Of course, the result would have been even more contrast.
Precious.
(And I know you hate post cropping. Getting you to 1x1 is a miracle!)

How I wish we could be that intrigued by every footstep again! I try to get into that mindset when I go out with a camera, looking at everything as if it were new to my eyes, but just watching a child doing it shows me I'm just an amateur!!

In your face contrast which I really like. Did you try to crop the top section (the darker area) it kind of leads my eye away. MAL

heh heh... well he is a little to small for tracing his dads footsteps in the sand... Nice contrast.

I really like this shot - the silhouette works very well.
By the way, your EXIF data says this that was taken with a 70-200/4L, but I thought that you sold that one?

I'm always a fan of silhouettes, but I love the way you've captured the water (the foreground looks wonderful with all that contrast) and the timing of catching the child's step is just marvelous. Very cool shot.

Nice shot that shows a different part of your personality. I'm in both camp A and B so I found this image nice to look at.
Thanks for sharing!

You *know* I'm a high contrast peeps. But I'm even more a high-affective peeps...and this image meets both needs.
It's adorable....the little man's concentration on the naive 'action and effect' relationship IS blissfully heartwarming and joyous. It's truly the age of "dance like no-one's watching"...
comment by Bob at 01:30 AM (GMT) on 13 September, 2006
I like the high contrast also, but this is one image where (for me) the color is competing rather than complimenting the silhouette.

having 2 boys under 4 this shot appeals to me.. my youngest just started walking so this is fun to see

Wow, it seems like only a few days ago that you announced that you have a son and look at him now. All ready to explore the world. These moments are to cherish.
comment by steve at 06:55 AM (GMT) on 13 September, 2006
nice. but I'd lose the white dot where her trouser zipper is.
Dramatic shot. The pose reminds me of a statue in Vigelands Park in Oslo of the Sinnataggen" or the angry (furious) little boy. Not that your son was angry at having a paddle.
comment by JD at 09:34 AM (GMT) on 13 September, 2006
Since my entire portfolio consists of high contrast shots of my (and other's) children, you could say you got me with this one. Sharp sharp sharp!

I like it, but I rather see it black & white... :-)
great shot as usual! I like it with its contrast and its fantastic silhouettes.
The composition is astonishing !
A lovely shot..I must agree about the white dot. Although I hadn't noticed it until I read Steve's post not I can't help but notice it
Lovely tones, love the way the light seems to have caught the little boy just on the top of his head.
Not to be too negative, but I think perhaps this image might have worked better in grayscale. Nice framing.
Bonsoir,
Very nice picture! 20 D and 70-200! Can I write your adress on my blog?
Bravo
i like it. I agree with both of the things you said, one of a child and his curiousity and one of the high contrast.
