This is another test shot with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS, again shot at 1/50. Harmony though, unlike Rhowan, is a determined poser when it comes to being photographed, barely able to sit still until the shutter's pressed before running round to see the result of the camera's LCD. This one, from what I can remember, was her idea of smiling for the camera ;-)

Love the soft focus on this shot, she looks like she could be trouble when she is older Dave ;-)

Very cute. Maybe too cute. Been playing with neat image?

Truely beautifull. Mal

Sysagent: yep, I suspect you're right :-)

Jeppe: nope, but there is an overlay layer (at around 65% opacity) that was blurred by 15px.

comment by Jon at 10:14 PM (GMT) on 17 September, 2006

Very nice portrait. The b&w works very well with the white background and the soft focus effect is spot on.

Another great high key!
The pose is great... totally natural even though it -looks- like a set-up.
She's definitely a cutie!
I think maybe the only way to improve the shot is with more high end contrast (like my all-time favourite) and to open those eyes a bit.

You definitely know how to get a great high key.

Dude, you gotta cover high key portraiture like this in your tutorials. In fact, when is that happening anyway?

The light is outstanding. Congratulations.

comment by djn1 at 08:14 PM (GMT) on 18 September, 2006

Thanks everyone.

m i k e b: it's a great lens.

Richard: I did try a more high-key version of this one, but ended up preferring this version.

paflechien: I quite agree :-) As for the background: she's sitting on a white sofa in a north facing bay window in our lounge.

{-P-}: I shoot all my images in RAW format and convert to B&W in Photoshop (apologies for not answering yesterday).

Si: will do. Soon ... honest.

Matthew: soon ;-)

The way she looks is great and her skin is very soft, great shot.

comment by RĂ©gis at 03:43 PM (GMT) on 22 September, 2006

So soft !!! This picture is really impressive. My favorite !!!

comment by Scott Haneda at 12:46 AM (GMT) on 27 September, 2006

How do you get this soft focus effect?

comment by Fabian Robok at 06:01 PM (GMT) on 27 September, 2006

Looking at this shot, I honestly cannot comment on focus, light of softness. This one is all about an incredible lightness, with just the slightest thinkable touch of possible worries in her eyes. Still thinking about a matching soundtrack for this picture. Something from Paul Weller or Ricky Lee Jones ...

comment by Leviatan at 01:53 PM (GMT) on 13 October, 2006

One word: "Fantastic"
Congratulations !!!!
