I shot this one a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get round to processing it until today, and I'm glad I did as it's turned out to be one of my favourite sunset/seascape shots in a while.
As for the processing: the sky is pretty much as per the original but the foreground was lifted by processing another version as an HDR image; i.e. it's brought out the detail and generally lightened the sea – it was underexposed in the original.

The post processing of this is magnificent. As Arthur noted, it is high contrast but, but it seems to fit the image quite well. Not only are we given a sense of movement in the waves, but also a sense of texture, not something you often see in seascapes. I really love the way that the light waves in the foreground give way to a darker background, and of course, who could ignore that sky. Great shot.

Great processing. Dynamic range is really good. I like how much motion you captured as well. Not too much, but just the perfect amount to show some motion in the water.

Great shot, indeed. The foreground is superb, although I think the sky lacks a bit of contrast, compared to the foreground.

CurlyToes:
That diference is correct and it is called chromatic perspective. The atmosfere make impossible that objects placed in diferent distances are the same level of colour and contrast.

nice shot, i like the tone in this. how do you process your HDRs? do you use merge to HDR in PS CS2 or you do it manualy in some way?

This is an excellent picture David and a good example of how HDR can make a great difference. That extra detail in the sea is superb.

Although BW is usually not my cup of tea for landscape shots, this one is really impressive. The exposure and timing is just perfect. Some blur around the waves, but not too much, just the perfect amount!

Hi Dave,
Another of my favourite type of 'wide-open spaces' shots. I love the idea that you've merged a HDR to pick up the sea tones. My only criticism would be that I'd like to have seen it with the 'Nightingale Blue' finish as in 'Open to Huge Light' and 'The West Wind'.
Nice work

really like this though did you try in full b+w? think it could make a starker image and maybe even more contrasty. really nice 'wave shapes', was this taken from the pier or at sea??
