I wish I could claim that I thought of this shot first, but this one is heavily influenced by a shot taken by a fellow Blackpool photographer, and at some point tomorrow I'll link to his shot. The only reason I'm avoiding doing it straight away is that it will give the game away; i.e. you'll know what this is, when, I think, it's a more interesting shot if you don't.

Not being a local, I was totally in the dark on this one. I really like the treatment of subject - it seems like a nomadic settlement trapped in world of vertigo.

woah, that's a cool shot!

Off the 4 images this is by far the best, love the perspective and your post processing on it. Looks like a Martian settlement...lol

Funny how the cones remind of little dwarfs hidden behing a wall. Good tonality!
comment byAdriana at 01:31 AM (GMT) on 27 September, 2006
in my case as in Scott's I wasn't even close to the subject. As stupid as it sounds I felt like having a chocolate after seing this one. Love the intensity on the clouds. :)

So... Pink Floyd. You guys have the coolest, weirdest stuff. (If I weren't heavily drugged on allergy medicine, I'd say something more inightful. Instead, I'll be grateful for a comment without typos. :-)

What is nice about photography like this is one can imagine whatever the image is to their pleasure. I am on the same page as nferreira. I see gnomes.
Well done.

I agree with Richard, from where you took it ? I cannot say if this is from a plane or if you look at the sky just over your hear (I really thing the second option is more probable). Nice colors anyway, I really like it.

Glad you linked to the other photos or I'd never have understood the title. Another striking image.

Nice shot. I'm drawn to the silver section where the cones ajoin. This shot almost makes me dizzy, like I'm about to fall off my chair (maybe I shouldn't have had that second beer).
I love the dark and moody toning as well. It's a great sculpture.

Nice shot, I've also taken a different shot of this same sculpture here.

Hi there, great shot. I'm a huge fan of your work. Not particularly present in the comments but your site is among the ones I open every morning when I get to work. Always great stuff to start the day.
Anyway, I think the clouds are particularly interesting, they don't seem to just hang over the scene as you would expect, they come from the bottom which is kind of weird, and it feels (as someone said above) like someone looking at the earth from above. And the way you shot the scene gives the impression that the cones are just standing in the middle of the desert. Really surreal ...

I hate to give you away, but simply by chance I ran across this pic right after looking at yours... I look at your new shots first thing every day as well.

Also not being a Blackpool-ite i had no idea what this was. I thought that it might have been traffic cones somehow or other... Love the sky. An HDR version of this would be pretty cool. I was rather dissapointed that we never made it as far as Blackpool while we were over from Australia. We were staying in Altrincham and drove up to the Lake District, so we were close but time was too tight...

what a brilliant experiment! I dont really care what it is, it's just so aesthetically pleasing.
Having just spent 30 minutes scouring your thumbnails for this image (to give you credit obviously, although Alistair has already laid claim to the idea!!) I was actually mortified to see how many of your images I've subconsciously ripped off over the years! I figured I'd borrowed maybe 10 ideas, but have spotted at least 30-40 photos that I'm tried emulating without even realising! Just shows how your images stay in my head even though I don't recall them directly when I'm pottering around the area!
At this rate I'm going to have to revisit half my photostream and give proper credit to your original versions! :-)

Got it. It's the sculpture opposite the pleasure beach. :)
Sorry to ruin the game so early on

In which case, here's the image I was referring to.
And here is my take on this image, taken on the 23rd August :)
And here's another of Alistair's ;-)

You know this shot is copyright!!!. looks even weirder (if there is such a word!) with the clouds. A link would have been good....
