Amazing perspective and as you said, just the right light.

I love it, amazing - and yeah, just the right light.

Very nice picture I love the way it is edited the tone is great...

I know what you mean, I usually don't have a camera when it's like that.

comment by Neil at 09:11 PM (GMT) on 28 September, 2006

The light really pulls out the texture, the toning helps to enhance it too. Nice work.

The light maybe right, but the pea-soup green/grey doesn't do much for this shot. I like the composition though, the eye is drawn in by the stump, then to the pier, then to the sky...

Just beautiful...wish I was there.

comment by Elissa at 10:25 PM (GMT) on 28 September, 2006

oh :( color?
perhaps it's just my mood today that doesn't like the monochromatic tone of this photo, even though it is VERY well done.

Indeed: and the art is in capturing that perfect light!

I’m not really a big fan of your ‘Green Period’...

I'm not particularly enamoured by the toning of this shot, but I'm surprised I haven't seen that stump before in one of your images. Is it a remnant of an old pier? Beautiful light and composition though.

this for me is a typical chromasia shot, this has your style and name written all over it.
i love the details and light of all the pebbles. fantastic.

It's about one year that I know (and visit) your photoblog. Your images are fantastic!

this is again a really perfect image. like the small shadows of the pebbles and the formation. regards

I like the composition - to me, it's as though the stump is remembering when it used to be part of a pier in it's younger days..hmmmm almost narrative I guess.

looking forward to tomorrow's shot Dave. I hope you make it a good one. There should nearly be a party don't you think...

I join the choir in saying I don't particularly like the green/monochromatic tone of the picture. However, it may just be the reason why the picture has life; it is almost real, almost 3d. I think in the end I see lots of mastery behind this shot.

Thanks everyone. And I did try various other ways of toning this image, but none of them seemed to work quite so well as this one.

Geoff: it's not stunning, but it is fitting, at least in some ways.

COOL, nice tones.
I keep looking for the stump in your elephant shot, but can't quite see it. bummer!
Good job getting low.
