These two small elephants have travelled around with me for the past six months or so. They belong to Henrietta, who commissioned me to produce a shot of them – on location – as a gift for her friend's first wedding anniversary. They were used originally as the table decorations for the wedding, so a photograph of them one year on seemed quite fitting.

It's also a good shot to put up today as this is the 1000th image that I've posted, and while it might not be the most striking I've ever put up, it does reflect the fact that the photography I'm producing has changed, not least because a proportion of it is now commercial.

As many of you know, Libby and I set up chromasia as a company a little over a year ago, and since then we've made good progress. Arguably, this hasn't always been a good thing for this side of chromasia; i.e. the blog, but it's something we decided I/we had to do if we were going to keep posting on a regular basis.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you, as without your continued support chromasia wouldn't be anywhere near as enjoyable for me, nor do I think that I would have managed to continue to post an image a day. So, thanks again for being a wonderful audience.

Beautiful composition. Love the shadows.
Respect!

This one made me smile. I'd call it querky and, I suppose as a novice DSLR guy, I'm mostly interested in certain themes and composition at the moment and catching moments. This one reminded me of something I shot in the summer on a Suffolk beach. It was slightly contrived as is yours. But mine made me giggle as well. I'd be happy to send you a copy of it for your comments. Mine was contrived out of beach flotsam. and jetsum and with the added help of nature. Dave, let me know if you 'd like to see it. Apologies for my slightly negative comments about the competion questions within your your daily blogs ..Your blog is a great for me as a catalyst. Thanks.

Congratulations on posting 1000 images - quite an achievement. This is a great photo to mark the occasion. I love elephants (real or not) and they fit in brilliantly with the beach that we have become very accustomed to :)

comment by Toby at 08:24 PM (GMT) on 29 September, 2006

Congratulations on the 1000th image. I was a little stunned to think that you have posted 1000 images, so I clicked on the "thumbs" link in the toolbar. As the images scrolled by I was struck by the consistency of the quality of the images you have posted. (I strongly recommend that other visitors to this site take a stroll through the "thumbs" collection. It is quite a sight!) You deserve the attention that you have been receiving lately, and the blog world can only wish you all success in the commercial world.

comment by Jamey at 09:12 PM (GMT) on 29 September, 2006

Well done. Things should evolve and I'm glad the site (blog & all) is moving forwards. In fact, that's the whole point of a blog really - progression. You've turned this into a huge success and I've got nothing but respect for that. Nice photo too. I was going to ask if it was staged but you pre-empted my question :)

comment by Mary at 09:36 PM (GMT) on 29 September, 2006

Congratulations on 1000 images! I like this photo, as I do most of your beach images. I wish I lived closer to a beach. Nice lighting and shadows on this one. The shine and reflective patterns on the elephants is unique. Nicely done. A very cool 1000th pic.

Congratulations on the 1000th image! Great atmosphere with these lovely elephants on the beach.

it's always a real pleasure to "see" your work -- sometime, one of the last image (in the millions i've "seen" in a day...) before i go to laladream-land, so keep on the great work and to be so inspirational (if the word exists, sorry for my poor english)
Respect (we say it in Marseille too :)

like the toning...very original concept....8.5/10

comment by Geoff at 10:47 PM (GMT) on 29 September, 2006

Congratulations on the 1000 images David. I happened to look at the thumbs yesterday and saw the title sitting on 999. Looking back through those thumbs is amazing. The diversity and the growth is something else. That's quite a folio you have there.

I first saw chromasia way back in feb. 2004 with this amazing shot. Not long after that I was a regular. I can't find when I first starting posting, but let me say the pleasure has been all mine. I don't think anyone could begrudge you commercial success David. Your talent is unmistakeable. Thanks for the 1000 images, and I look forward to the next 1000.

1,000 is something to be noted. Your discipline and consistency has been very rewarding to me. Thank you and congratulations.

For me, 331 to 1, and then on to 1000. It has been a great journey as seen through nearly 1000 personas. The gift is ours and I can never adequately express my appreciation for your time, talent, and inspiration. A 1000 images viewed and not a second wasted. Thank you so much!

comment by Dave at 01:52 AM (GMT) on 30 September, 2006

I see the elephants, but where's hannibal? Great shot. I like the tiny subject couple with the huge sceen. Very cool.

comment by Maxine at 02:07 AM (GMT) on 30 September, 2006

Thank YOU for sharing the way you see things around! Just
delicious ;) about the elephants....lovely composition but I would love to see it in colours...any chance? ;) (just for comparation)

comment by Dave at 02:14 AM (GMT) on 30 September, 2006

Sorry to be a pest with dual posts but my friends and I have a wager that is worth a round of beers. How do you pronounce Chromasia? We're pretty sure we have the 'Chro' part down, but the end...is the masia part with a 'z' sound, with an 's' sound, or with the 'sh?' I have a feeling, someone is going to be buying me a beer ;-)

comment by Chris at 04:38 AM (GMT) on 30 September, 2006

David, I really like the post-processing you have done here. It is another amazing image.

comment by John Zeweniuk at 05:44 AM (GMT) on 30 September, 2006

I thought those were elephants when I first looked at the photo, but I couldn't be sure.. a bit strange to see them marching along here though

comment by PhilB at 07:56 AM (GMT) on 30 September, 2006

Congratulations on a thousand different inspirations to us all! ;-)

comment by Bob at 08:00 AM (GMT) on 30 September, 2006

Thank you, David, for making my life better as the result of your images. Congratulations for reaching such an impressive milstone.

comment by Bob at 08:25 AM (GMT) on 30 September, 2006

i realized after posting my last comments that they weren't nearly adequate for the impact that you've made to me personally and the photoblogging community at large. On thousand amazing images make understand the meaning of humility.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for enriching my life as the result of your images.

You will always be, to me, the best in the world at what you do.

Thanks to Libby and your family for supporting your vision, drive, and creative urge.

Awards will come and go, but your images will represent the standard of excellence during the entire period in which you choose to post.

Thanks again.

Your devoted fan,
