I did think that I ought to be able to come up with a clever title for this one, but I really couldn't think of anything, so if you do have any suggestions please let me know.
Anyway, this is the first of four shots taken in Collins, a former DIY and wallpaper shop, one of the various empty properties I mentioned the other day.
Of the ten shots in this small series, this and tomorrow's are my favourites so I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on both.

Oh love this. Has a great mood. Looks like a prop lit by and from a theatre set. Very moody, found in the same building? Mad. Perfect light and great choice to go B & W.

Very nice b&w!!
comment byNeil at 08:32 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
the subtle vignetting really works here and draws one in to the scene-- along with the direct lighting from above, it's as if this DIY once doubled as an interrogation room. Interesting shot.
comment byDarren at 08:38 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
Is that natural lighting?
Natural or not, it's wonderful.
comment bydjn1 at 08:44 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
mooch: no, this is the DIY shop.
Darren: yes, it's natural light.

Title ideas: Chair Unfurled, Soft Seat
Sometimes background clutter can significantly distract from the focus. In this, I believe every element adds diminision, tells a little more of the story. The B&W also fits better than believe color would.
comment bypeter at 08:58 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
I love the soft light in this shot and keeping things in black and white makes most of the subject matter. I really like this one.
comment byMal at 09:00 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
How about "Andrex"
Lovely lighing. Mal
comment byAndrew at 09:00 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
This is superb - an image that strikes you as fantastic as soon as you open it. The lighting is perfect.
comment bynferreira at 09:07 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
The light is very well balanced. I thought it was from a custom set in your house or in a studio. A photo well explored. :-)
comment byAndrew Parker at 09:12 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
;-) How about "The Final Roll.", or "Forgot the Paste..."?
Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Wonderful shot. This is much more like what I was expecting you to post, when you first mentioned your new project. This is moody, and a smidgen theatrical (I gree with mooch on that one). Did you consider softening the light any more?
comment byA N D Y T Y E at 09:17 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
Another moody shot. I absolute love this. Great atmosphere, and good composition...

comment bydjn1 at 09:32 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
Thanks for the title suggestions :-)
Andrew: it's good to hear you have high expectations, but unfortunately I probably didn't make as much of the light as I could have done. I'm hoping to go back again some time soon so will try and shoot some more material that's congruent with my style.
comment bydjn1 at 09:35 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
Oh, and yes, I did think about playing around a bit more with this one to soften the light, but decided I preferred it as a reasonably straight shot.
comment byAndrew at 09:44 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
Is the vignetting added via the lens correction filter in Photoshop? (I'm just trying to get a sneek preview into your processing and the forthcoming tutorials!)
comment by Damian at 09:46 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
I like this although I share the view it does look like an interogation scene. Although knowing the setting and context of the previous images this has a feeling of hope.
comment bydjn1 at 09:55 PM (GMT) on 23 October, 2006
Andrew: no, it was added by using a masked Curve - and this is something I'll be talking about in the tutorials ;-)
Damian: yes, this one isn't quite so bleak as the previous few I've put up.

Great shadows, and with the theatrical feel mentioned earlier, you could call it "End of the show." Of course, untitled works fine, as the image has plenty of feeling without needing an explanatory title.

This is beautiful shot...a perfect photo for b/w. Love the ligh in this.
comment byGabriel Loeb at 03:20 AM (GMT) on 24 October, 2006
This is awesome. A truly massive improvement over yesterday's image. I think what really pulls this over the top is the abstract nature of the shot. The light is amazing and the black and white gives it a great mood; but I think your decision (whether conscious or otherwise) to omit all other elements from the frame was a very wise one, and probably the most important one that was made in the taking of this picture. Fantastic work, David. This is why I can't stop coming back.

Hi Dave,
You've brought a great mood to this shot. It almost seems as though someone was cut short mid-decorating session and have just abandoned their stuff.
For the title, how about ' Flock in Hell' !!!
Cheers,
