There was another tyre on the beach yesterday, in addition to this one and the previous one, but I didn't manage to get a decent shot of it, so you'll just have to make do with two in a row rather than three ;-)
Oh, and this is a partial HDR insofar as I created a second exposure from the RAW file (1.5 stops lighter) which I used to lift the foreground.
I prefer this one to yesterday's, but let me know what you think.

It seems to me that you and Washington have jumped up and down on the tyre to get a very different perspective!, I prefer this to the previous, it seems to signify more the feeling of decay and looks as though it is being absorbed into the beach, to be lost forever, the PP is as always on the money, a very chromasia shot...

as shooter mentioned it is a very chromasia shot, but then what should we expect!!!!
its a little soft in areas (front right of the tire and bits of sand)...
you mentioned "partial HDR", do you mean its just a couple of exposures manually combined or did you do it through software???
Brill shot none the less, love the darkness and the contrast ;)

shooter: there was no jumping involved ;-) And John wasn't there either :-)
JD: I used Photomatix to construct the HDR then masked the sky (i.e. it's the sky from the original exposure not the HDR).

Looks a bit flat to me!
Sorry, I'll get my coat... ;-)

I’m a bit deflated by this one Dave! ;-)
But seriously, I love this image, this is everything I expect of you, Perfect! Mal

At first, I thought it was a snake, then realized it was a tire! Nice capture!

Dave, is that the tyre that you keep in your back yard ;-)
Seriously though, when I started beachcoming with Dave a few years ago I was astonished at the range of items that were washed up on the beach. It fascinates me as to how most of that stuff got there. I know that people leave rubbish on the beach but some items were just too big.
Good shot

I prefer yesterdays image - This is a little flat for me. My eyes dont know where to go as the subject has been lost. I would love to see a colour version!

I like the angle and subject matter of this image but the clarity and technical quality of the previous one. Just to be difficult :)

You do some very interesting things in editing. Makes for powerful images. The sharp detail of the foreground vs. the soft curves of the horizon make for nice contrast.

a very interesting perspective, great sky and well-done composition - a good picture doesn't need more!

That "HDR" technique is interesting ... I hadn't ever thought of that. Does the effectiveness diminish at all? I imagine you would certainly not be able to recreate the detail you gain from the various exposures in a typical HDR. I think this is my favorite of the monochrome tire shots.

Hey, my beach has one of these too. It must be their breeding season.
