I don't have much to say about this one other than to tell you that I like it. I would be interested to hear what you think though.

He looks like he's angry at the ocean and is going to beat it! Love the tone.

comment by Arthur at 09:03 PM (GMT) on 18 December, 2006

Love this one and yesterday’s: have you got more to come in this vein...?

comment by JM° at 09:36 PM (GMT) on 18 December, 2006

I'm sure he 's gonna catch a whale (or a pinguin ;-)
Nice one, looks like the beginning of a vintage b&w movie..

It doesn't really apply to this picture. But, how do you ask people for permission to photograph them? Or do you just take the picture?

comment by photoburner at 11:41 PM (GMT) on 18 December, 2006

Interesting but the foreground doesn't connect to the fisherman to me, might be better with a lot of the bottom cropped off. I know it's hard to get rid of that nice water relection tho.

comment by Mark Palmer at 11:44 PM (GMT) on 18 December, 2006

Looks like it could be a movie poster.

sara: you forgot to say whether you thought that was a good thing or a bad thing ;-)

Arthur: I have a few more, that aren't entirely dissimilar.

Jacob: if the person is going to be recognisable, and if possible, I do ask.

photoburner: maybe, but I'm not all that keen on substantial cropping.

Maybe too much foreground? Too much blur in the reflection, perchance?

comment by Robert at 03:24 AM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

Makes me feel like taking a quiet walk on the beach.

comment by Steve at 03:36 AM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

I love the color of this.

comment by gypsy at 05:45 AM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

Crop it.

comment by Toxic Lens at 07:40 AM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

I like it too. I think I might like it even more in a 2x1 crop (just the top half), but the lightplay on the water at the bottom is worthwhile too... Oh, looks like I'm not the first to say this :)

I like the color of the shot and the water is so peaceful. I think you captured a great moment.

comment by sara at 08:39 AM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

it's a good thing of course! it's like a dream =)

comment by sara at 08:42 AM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

btw, was it your intention?

comment by riesenriel at 08:54 AM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

Excellent tones in this beautiful action shot. Captured right on time.

comment by Mark at 09:09 AM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

Lovely tones and the action tells a story

comment by Jennifer at 12:10 PM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

Dont think it needs a crop - composition works beautifully. Like the tone, and love the movement in JR Hartley's tackle!

comment by Rob Woolf at 05:53 PM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

The Fisherman has an enormous right foot..............which is nice

comment by Sharla at 06:26 PM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

This shot doesn't strike my senses as do many c h r o m a s i a shots. What I still appreciate about the shot is its warmth and expansiveness. I fail completely to understand the suggestions of a tighter crop. I believe the affect would be lost interest rather than tightened. Contrast a simple sillouette to man in nature. This capture is the more complex and artful presentation.

comment by djn1 at 07:06 PM (GMT) on 19 December, 2006

Thanks everyone.

sara: no, it wasn't intentional.

As for the crop: yes, it would have worked that way, but I also like this version.

comment by Roger at 07:40 AM (GMT) on 20 December, 2006

I think it's a great shot David. The tone really adds to the overall picture and I think the crop is perfect.
