This one was taken a few seconds after yesterday's and continues the theme of Rhowan being adventurous and Harmony being a little more cautious.

As for the post-processing: I'd be grateful of some feedback on this one – specifically: I produced this one on my new laptop, and on the LCD screen it looks great, but on my CRT it looks a bit flat and dull. How does it appear to you?

I like it - their lovely jumpers make it work!

comment by nferreira at 09:34 PM (GMT) on 5 January, 2007

In my CRT, the colors in the sweaters are not so vivid. Don't know if that was your intention. The rest seem fine to me.

comment by djn1 at 09:56 PM (GMT) on 5 January, 2007

nferreira: yep, that was intentional, though I think I could probably have made them a little more colourful.

Great to see you posting again, and great to see the kids again =) Great images to start the year off! All around just great.

comment by Mark at 10:03 PM (GMT) on 5 January, 2007

drives me nuts that my LCD makes all my photos look great (well as great as they can be) and viewing them on my work CRT makes them look "bleh"...ugh!!!

As to this one....i love what you did with the coloring of the entire photo, but yeah, my work CRT shows the shot lacking some contrast...the whites dont seem as white....im sure when i view on my LCD at home, this picture will POP!

comment by hwasung at 10:05 PM (GMT) on 5 January, 2007

Looks great on my laptop monitor. Though it becomes a little dull in my CRT monitor, overall it looks great. I especially like Harmony's facial expression and Rhowan's hair color.

The story line is brilliant Dave ....show us the next shot

I'm looking at this on my laptop and it looks great! I prefer the subdued colours to the two other versions.

comment by Raphaƫl at 10:41 PM (GMT) on 5 January, 2007

Very nice. I love that one. Great processing.

comment by Arthur at 11:34 PM (GMT) on 5 January, 2007

Looks the same on my LCDs (MacBook Pro and iBook—both with matt LCDs!) and CRTs (iMacs) (disregarding minor things like flatness of the tube/reflectiveness of the screen/brightness of backlighting, etc.).

Since I started calibrating everything with a Spyder, the differences between them all are far less apparent, and the colour and contrast are dramatically better – and closer – than even the most careful manual calibration could achieve.

Anyway, nice to see you back! And I'm picking up my 70–200 f2.8 in the week: you’re a bad influence, DJN... :)

comment by Arthur at 11:38 PM (GMT) on 5 January, 2007

p.s. meant to mention that the MacBook Pro is much brighter than any of the others...!

comment by m at 11:53 PM (GMT) on 5 January, 2007

I've got an overly bright lcd and this looks very subdued.
I like it though.

comment by brecht at 01:15 AM (GMT) on 6 January, 2007

you really tell a story with your last photos -> very nice

comment by Sharla at 06:51 AM (GMT) on 6 January, 2007

I liked the shot on my laptop, the jackets were more subdued than two days ago but a better match to the tones of the pic. On my Monaco-corrected CRT, there isn't a lot of percieved difference (I don't have them side-by-sied), but the shot is a little flatter, which is better because there is much more subtlety across the greys of the wood.

comment by P.J. at 06:59 AM (GMT) on 6 January, 2007

Just as innocent as yesterday! Great image.

comment by Jennifer at 08:05 AM (GMT) on 6 January, 2007

I think the toning is just wonderful - I'd call it subtle rather than flat or dull!

comment by Roy at 10:38 AM (GMT) on 6 January, 2007

With LCD and CRT side by side it shows me that I need to calibrate the CRT!
Definitely brighter and slightly more saturated on the LCD though, which is calibrated (with Eye-One).
Good to see you back - and good luck with the new ventures in 2007!

comment by John at 07:01 PM (GMT) on 6 January, 2007

Looks great to me, on my LCD, but I prefer the b&w image posted prior; the pinks are a little too distracting for my taste.

comment by YETi at 07:30 PM (GMT) on 6 January, 2007

On my crt the colours are are a little dull and not quite so vibrant. I'm liking the series so far!

comment by riesenriel at 11:05 PM (GMT) on 6 January, 2007

Well... here in The Netherlands on my Mac it's looks great ;-) Excellent (action)picture of her.

comment by Santhosh at 07:53 AM (GMT) on 7 January, 2007

I use lcd screen and the colors are vivid but still i like the it. It is kind of desaturated and goes well with the mood of the picture.

great capture. Sure your kids going to enjoy seeing the beautiful captures when they grow up.

comment by Azz at 11:22 AM (GMT) on 7 January, 2007

I like this one best of the three so far - I love the colours. Muted, yes, but somehow right.

comment by Osiriums Ventaka at 06:30 PM (GMT) on 7 January, 2007

Marvelous photoblog.
I go add your feed!

comment by Gavin at 09:31 PM (GMT) on 7 January, 2007

The colours look great on my laptop! Muted but wonderfully realistic.

comment by navin at 07:12 AM (GMT) on 8 January, 2007

I liked the black and white version. The selective saturation in this pic is not working for me.

comment by John Zeweniuk at 07:40 AM (GMT) on 8 January, 2007

I enjoyed this and the previous two as a set. Play and interplay. I love the contrasts in confidence.

comment by mooch at 08:48 AM (GMT) on 8 January, 2007

Hello, is it just me or has the comments section for the origianl disappeared? I can't find "comments 23" or whatever yet on the rest the comments are accessible. Conspiracy?

comment by mooch at 08:49 AM (GMT) on 8 January, 2007

No, definitely cannot access the comments for the original of this Dave.

comment by Jerry Moores at 11:37 AM (GMT) on 8 January, 2007

looks like you may have desaturated it and then painted the sweater back???

I think it looks AWESOME!

I am a big fan of your talent!

Very nice image, so cute. I like colors and tones.

comment by PlasticTV at 08:58 AM (GMT) on 9 January, 2007

Cute doesn't start to describe this picture. Her sweaters really stand out in the monochromatic surroundings. Looks wonderful on my screen, if you ask me.

comment by Dorene at 01:16 PM (GMT) on 9 January, 2007

I love all of your photos of your children especially. They are the most beatiful and natural models you could ask for. I enjoy the starkness of this shot, with the bright, bold colors of their sweaters jumping out. Great shot!

comment by Saito at 03:36 PM (GMT) on 9 January, 2007

I really like this photo better than the last one. the girls pink makes them stand out more. And I love the expression on your younger daughter's face!

comment by Rob Hall at 05:37 AM (GMT) on 10 January, 2007

I am wondering if the two little lizard heads were put there on purpose. the Lizards look like they are having a look around and a wonder around as well as the young girls.

Very nice colours ! Congratulations for your work. I like the HDR series also !

I'm familiar with the laptop LCD differences to CRT. It's really frustrating.

All you can trust is the histogram.

great shot! the feel of this picture is very comforting

Looks awesome to me David, I think this is my favourite of the 3 shots of the little cutie, I particularly like the way you edited this shot.
