Hmm, not really sure on this one, something about the brown toning doesn't really do it for me.

SteveO: you probably won't be alone in your opinion ;-)

I would have to agree. I think a dull slate/navy color would be perfect for this image. But I'm hardly an artist. I do like the composition.

Is it part of a moon lander?
comment by Kennedy at 09:30 PM (GMT) on 16 January, 2007
Wow. I really like that. The only issue I do have is the positioning of the object. It doesn't seem right.
comment byAndrew at 09:47 PM (GMT) on 16 January, 2007
wow pretty cool. nice colors.

Oooooo see what you mean about dramatic - ace. How did you get that seagull to cooperate? ;-)

Dave
I actually like this photo, the contrast between the bird with flight and life and then the lifeless metalic thing rusting in the water added to that the dark almost post apocalyptic look just adds to the contast. But this might be how I am feeling about things. Dave I have tried to contact you at Uni but I have not recieved a reply. Is it possible to pick up with my studies again or not?
comment byROB at 11:23 PM (GMT) on 16 January, 2007
Strangely, even with the bird, there is a limited sense of scale in this image. It really gets me in there thinking - is that thing huge or the size of a bucket. Overally interesting for me as it keeps me involved.

Very well done effect ! As usually! Bravo!

Very surreal. The bottle looks larger than life. Kinda reminds me of Dali.

I like this photo. And like the dark emotions coming out from the toning of the colors.

I like the golden hue, it works perfectly with this shot...

So this is what is meant by "digital noire." A very strong and challenging image with lots of emotion. As commented by others, it does seem a bit off balance to the left side but I'm not sure that really detracts from the trepidation or adds to it. Only the gull seems immune from the toxins and malice hiding just out of sight.

I like the look of this! Nice job!
comment bypeter at 07:50 AM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
Even with the bird in the photo I have no idea how big that object is - which is enough to keep me looking and guessing for a while. It's quite nice, actually.
comment byPhil at 09:28 AM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
I'm really not sure to like this one. The tone, and... is there a lake of shaprpness or I'm not seeing well ?
comment byKat at 11:37 AM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
I love this, I love the color, I love the feeling it gives off. I think the navy and yellow are a nice contrast, and I don't think that it isn't sharp, I just think there is movement, probably because...it's water :)
comment byMark at 12:33 PM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
I'm not really a fan of the toning for the clouds and water but the container (it is a shipping container isn't it....?) reminds me of heated copper - it looks great.
comment byRoy at 12:48 PM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
I think this is excellent - surreal, mysterious, ambiguous. One of your best in IMHO.
comment byOko at 01:05 PM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
I love the color in the sky and the water. The color and texture in the flotsam (or is it jetsam) looks like an oil patch on the street. Very cool.
comment byAlice at 01:43 PM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
Nice toning and composition.
comment by Richard Trim at 04:02 PM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
I tend to agree with ROB. I have a slight dilemna with the scaling.
To my novice eye it appears to be two shots superimposed. But I'm sure that that is the obvious conclusion to come to.
The range of silvers, greys and grey blues .... with golden highlights mmmmmmmm lovely!
And ok ... I'll say it as well ...surreal.
comment byPsychodudu at 04:13 PM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
Details, details....I love the gull in the background, it really sets this off well. I think the treatment is lovely, and I genuinely like the blue tones (my fave colour....). It's heavy, but the weather seems to be demanding that sort of approach.
comment bydjn1 at 08:24 PM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
Thanks all. As for the scale of this object: it was probably about four feet square and looked as though it was probably some sort of housing for some equipment.

I'm between liking this one and finding the composition a little cheesy...
The placing of the gull almost seems slapped on there by some photoshoppery...
toning is interesting and the colours represent a mood of the scene quite well
The lighting is great on the water, but I think the sky lack s a little contrast in comparison (did you double expose this??? or use a grad filter???)
comment byDaniel at 04:59 PM (GMT) on 20 January, 2007
love the yellow tone of the odd thing...
