This, in case you were wondering, is a control dial on this abandoned wreck. And I guess that's all I've got to say about this one other than that I suspect I should have used a higher ISO and/or smaller aperture as the original is a bit soft. That said, I'm not sure it would have worked as well had in been sharper. Perhaps I'll shoot it again another day.
Anyway, irrespective of the merits of this one, it's the first one I've put up taken with my new 5D (which arrived a couple of days ago). So far, I'm pretty impressed, but I won't bore you with the details unless you're interested. Let me know.

Interested......... of course we are !! Looks like a watercolour rather than a photo though, but maybe that's the effect you were after?!

Cool image - I didn't have a clue what it was until I read your comments. Enjoy your new 5D! I actually like the softness - adds to the mystique a bit.

Yeah, I wondered how long it would take for you to upgrade the 20D to a 5D or 1D. Do you reckon that you'll change your 'standard' zoom (the 17-40) for a 24-70 or similar now that you don't have the x1.6 crop factor?
comment byBen at 08:53 PM (GMT) on 17 January, 2007
Congrats on the new 5D! I can't wait to see some really wide shots with that 17-40 of yours on the 1.0x crop factor of the 5D. I'd be interested in hearing some of the details about your new camera, as well as the answer to Simon's question.

Welcome to the world of more lovely shots from Chromasia. Congrats on youe 5D. I'll be very interested to see what new creations come out from you.
I've got one and I love it.

5D?! Nice. You were one of the reasons I chose the 20D. Can I ask what made you choose the 5D? Was it for full frame, 10 megapixels, or what? I'm torn about buying one as they're not cheap, and I know Canon will come out with a better camera the day I buy one. ;-)
I'd be interested to hear over the course of time how you like it and especially what you DON'T like about it relative to your 20D.

Really like this photo, the tones make it look quite human.

Cool colors, even if the focus is off. I think you're going to fall in love with your 17-40L all over again. It's a great lens on the 5D. Don't hesitate to crank that ISO up next time! The 5D can take it. ;-)

Thanks all.
Jennifer: see tomorrow's entry.
Simon: I won't be getting rid of the 17-40 - I love that lens - but I may well get the 24-70 as well.
Jamey: :-)
Max: there were various reasons I got the 5D. First, as we're now running chromasia full-time I needed to get a second body anyway. Second, I did want a full-frame sensor. And third, a few more megapixels won't do any harm. I did think about holding out for a 1Ds mkII, but they're far too expensive at the moment.
Richard: I wish I could, but at the moment I need a second body.
geckonia: thanks, I'll try not to be quite so conservative with my ISO setting in future.
comment byMark at 09:05 PM (GMT) on 18 January, 2007

I really like this. I don't think "sunny" is the right word, but it definitiely has a whimsical lightness that not all of your pics do. At the same time, the light colors kind of belie the decay beneath. V. Nice!
