Ok, so here's number two. In many ways I think that this is my favourite of the three though I suspect that tomorrow's will attract greater comment :-)

Oh, and this is definitely one that looks best with the black theme.

This is my fav too. I like it because it shows more context. Great shot Djn

comment by Benjamin Chait at 08:16 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

I love how much of the scene you captured, as opposed to yesterday's narrower focus.

comment by matthijs at 08:30 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

great shot! the dark really makes it a bit "dangerous"

comment by hixster at 08:34 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

Agree with all the above comments , love the fine textural quality on the water surface.
Was just the foreground in sunlight or did you darken the sky down?
Another great shot!

Wow, the black and white works great!

comment by photorama at 08:41 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

Wow! Great!

If tomorrows is to generate a greater interest than this! Well, this is absolutely fantastic. Mal

comment by Jennifer at 08:47 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

It's been said before, but as it was my reaction on first sight.....WOW!

comment by Free Spirit at 08:49 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

I love this! One of my favourites. The sea looks so powerful!

comment by Dave at 08:56 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

This is fantastic, this is one of those images that 'comes with sound.' Things look very churned up, I can almost hear the din...

comment by Roy at 09:06 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

Having just come from watching David Attenborough's BBC programme "Climate Change: Britain Under Threat", which featured Blackpool, it strikes me that this would be a great image to accompany that worrying documentary...

comment by L at 09:10 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

Fantastic shot, David. Love the total darkness of the background; gives a great, scary motive to the shot. Actually the wind was quite scary and feel sorry for the eleven people earlier the week.

comment by Richard Trim at 09:12 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

The black frame seems to create more luminosity than the white one. I can understand you wanting to darken the sky ...it creates such a full-moon wild sea effect. But surely that is a total distortion from the facts ...? Just a thought David ...
But of course a great bit of creativity all the same.

comment by Brad at 09:12 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

It's amazing that the pier stands up to this kidn of a beating. Very cool.

comment by luminouslens at 09:52 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

Wow, what amazing waves. It's really scary looking.

comment by Scott at 10:58 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

The pier looks like a toy.

comment by Fabio Giolito at 11:30 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

oh, now i understand the last photo !! =)

comment by Ryano at 11:40 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

Lots of character in this shot. I feel like something bad is going on. Love your work David, it has inspired me to start my own blog.

comment by Dave Carrington at 11:53 PM (GMT) on 21 January, 2007

Wonderful shot. Tones & light are magnificent!

comment by rj at 12:04 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Great; real reflection of the winds we've been having of late. My fav of the three too.

comment by ROB at 01:22 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Spectacular - this is one of the images that surprises me in that ordinarily it would not have been able to be captured...by that I mean the lighting on the buildings are surprising but still leaving the sea to the sides and back dark. It almost looks to have been specifically lit to allow it to be photographed.

In any case, nice work. Although I bet you were not out there too long with a new camera and reasonably new lens in that wild weather.

comment by P.J. at 01:39 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

You captured a doozy it seems! Nice job! Great processing on it!

comment by Robert at 03:38 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

I'll bet the original has incredible detail. It's been a while since I've seen a sea this angry, but your shot takes me there.

comment by MarkDM at 04:20 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Great contrasts in this one. Looks like a dark and stormy night. ... Um, sorry about that.

comment by Kennedy at 05:05 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

I love it. Excellent work. :). Did you capture and more from the same position?

comment by Ali at 05:10 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

nice!

The power of the sea, great captured and good contrast.

comment by thomas mueller at 09:19 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

great. you captured the elements very well. stunning work and beautiful bw processing!

comment by peter at 10:45 AM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Moody and full of action and movement. I can hear the wind and waves from here.

comment by Beau Mitchell at 12:03 PM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Magnificent photograph. The waves are what 'makes' this photo for me. Great work!

comment by Artepp at 01:08 PM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Which light, which movement. It misses the noise of the waves. And we plungeā€¦ It is splendid .

comment by Steve at 02:05 PM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Outstanding. Dramatic light and storm. Great shot.

comment by Alice at 02:09 PM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Amazing shot - almost reminds me of those infra red shots you see

comment by djn1 at 08:05 PM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

Thanks everyone.

comment by Mike at 09:58 PM (GMT) on 22 January, 2007

This one is certainly my favourite of the three. I can't quite explain why but it's something to do with the juxtaposion of the motion of the waves and the static pier - although I'm sure it didn't feel very static to anybody on in at the time!

comment by Psychodudu at 12:11 AM (GMT) on 23 January, 2007

It's not dynamic enough, for me. Not enough fluidity in the shot, it seems almost as if someone's pressed the pause button on the video.

comment by m at 01:16 AM (GMT) on 23 January, 2007

I like this one a lot too. After seeing the next shot I can't help but wonder what this one would be like in colour. Although for once I do like it in B&W.

comment by elaine at 06:49 PM (GMT) on 23 January, 2007

that is a very imprssive shot! great movement!

comment by mihai at 11:06 PM (GMT) on 24 January, 2007

like the b/w idea ...very powerful feelin' to see waves in action...from this series i must say as many of viewers this is "the one"

comment by Jamey at 11:26 PM (GMT) on 24 January, 2007

Love this, very well captured.

comment by Photo Buffet at 04:30 PM (GMT) on 29 January, 2007

David, you've captured the power of the sea here. I can hear those waves roaring in. This really works in b/w in a way I doubt it would work in color. Great capture--very moody.

comment by toast at 09:53 AM (GMT) on 1 February, 2007

this really is outstanding... big fan of this

comment by Jennifer Bickel at 02:27 PM (GMT) on 12 September, 2007

I love the setting of the photo and the contrast its amazing it's as if I'm looking out my window and that's what I see. It's just so realistic.
