First of all, my apologies for the rather protracted series of babies and young children, but at the moment I really don't have any time to shoot anything else; so I'm afraid it's yet more children for the next few days. I should add that I'm not unhappy with any of them, but I would prefer a bit more variation in the stuff I'm posting here. Anyway, I'll be back on the beach before you know it ;-)

I like the differential focus between child and mother.

a very good emotional portrait of happiness. b/w fits, too ;)

brilliant shot. It's a great expression on your son's face. I like the soft focus you applied too. I love the way lighting. Bright, soft, adorable..I have yet to figure out how you do that.

Howdy! I'm a freshman at Texas A&M University and I've been looking at your site everyday in amazement for about a year now wondering why I like your pictures sooo much...I think it might be your sharp lines or the contrast you use...anyway I guess I’m just trying to say I love your work and would love to be able to do the things that you can do to a photograph. I don't really know if you even read these posts...but if you do I just wanted to say thanks...

Lovely shot - perfect DoF. Had chance to play with that reflector yet ?

I like this, it conveys the joy that a baby brings. One question. Would it have been better to increase the DoF so that the woman was a little less soft or was that what you were going for, the softer finish on her face?

I love this. Amazing job. You captured the baby's smile amazingly well.

Fantastic. Captures all my favourite elements - mono, portrait, fantastic expressions. Well done! :)

I particularly like how this captures the relationship that is so often present between young children and mothers: mother is absorbed looking at child, while the child is looking at everything but his mother.

Never apologize for your brilliance..while I like your other photographs, your portraits seem to capture the very essence of a person.

comment by Simon Goodchild at 01:35 PM (GMT) on 16 February, 2007

Dave, that's a corker, well done. Now is that a super-shallow DOF with excellent focus control on the baby's face or have you added a layer of gausian blur to Mum?

What happy subjects! Great shot!
