I met up with Russ today, from syspix.com ... which was great.
I got two shots, neither of which contain babies ... which was also great.
While we were there, the tide was coming in – which involved a fair amount of jumping back from the waves. Unfortunately, a slightly larger wave than usual got hold of Russ's tripod and dumped his 350D into the sea. He managed to pull it out almost immediately, but it didn't seem at all well ... which wasn't so great. It was a good trip though, and as soon as he's bought a new camera I'm sure we'll go out again.

Hey, I was just searching your archives!
That sucks about the tripod. Anyway what else can one do after seeing so many baby pictures but make up a game?
It's called "Chromasia Bingo"... It's simple to play:
Click on the archive link, and in the search box type in TWO OR MORE words. Or a partial phrase... The winner is the person whose criteria yields the most results. Remember, it must be at least two words!
I've tried some, for example:
"my apologies" (38)
"I know I said" (55)
"not least because" (86)
"let me know what you think" (86)
"I quite like it" (188)
"get out" (241)
"oh, and" (248)

damn, if that happened to my XT I dont know what I'd do.
Great photo anyway :)
It has real action, which creates a strong appeal.
It makes me want to go to the beach.. in fact... be right back... :p

Good to meet you @ last Dave, the Canon 30D is on order as we speak, alongside a battery grip as well.
Will arrange another meet up sooner than later for sure, this time lets hope its not as traumatic for the equipment. The 350D is currently on a radiator being kep't company by a rather forlorn Sigma 17-70 lens, I have hope for both of the challengers to Neptune's wrath as the lens seems to have dried out quite nicely.
Guess what...
Yes the CF card funtions and yes there is a couple of shots that are actually ok, will let you know when I have posted one.
Anyways great image here as usual Dave, I like the DOF used here and I didn't think of that at the time (too busy watching your back for the enchroaching sea), but it works and is really effective.

Sorry to hear about your camera - being a 350d owner also it strikes deep in the heart of me! No seriously though, glad you got that sorted now anyway.
Nice photo makes a great change from babies :D

Well, obviously I'm in the minority here, but I didn't mind the baby shots. I do, however, love to see you posting your "regular stuff" and hoping lots of other things pop up as well.
I really enjoy the dof here, and the big chunks of waves splashing up looking so thick and frothy.

Bad bad news about the tripod and the Canon. But this image really rocks. I really like the way you edited it and how you shot it. I think f/4.0 was a good choice here. I am not shure if you used HDR in this image because of the halo arround the wood and the horizon. Maybe you just multiplied the clouds-layer.. Hm. From a compositional standpoint I would love to see the "3 little ones" to the left sharp. The line that the wood in the foreground is painting points to them. What do you think about that ? I hope that my critique encourages you, maybe stirres some thoughts ...

I for one am getting sick of the site, and I doubt I'll be back again after this. Over the last year, it's been nothing but beach, graffiti, or baby shots. Very little diversity. And your post processing has become a bore - soften up certain areas, tint the image somehow (duotone), and give it a vignette. There is no originality, no fresh breath, nothing. You'd swear you took all of these on the same day. How you remain one of the most popular photo blogs is beyond me.

Leave him alone K-T. The likes of Travisruse ...just post people on the New York underground system...No one freaks about him as you have done about David. Let's face it, David has only been a professional for a few weeks. Sure, he could broaden out. But his family life tends to involve him considerably... well I hope it does.
Hey Dave,... am I defending you ?....I hope not. You are quite capable of doing that yourself...I'm sure!
But I do agree that processing can become unacceptable. Work as much as you can on making the original shot is my philosophy. and then maybe crop and subtly change certain saturations. What do think David.

K-T: no disrespect, but a) I've posted quite a lot of stuff that isn't "beach, graffiti, or baby shots", and b) while variety may well be the spice of life it's not really what I'm striving for here. Sure, development and progress are good, but randomness – for the sake of it – isn't something that interests me any more.
Richard: yep, over the last twelve months I have concentrated more on the original shots than the post-processing. Well, at least in terms of developing as a photographer. As for Russ: yes, it was a bit unfortunate.

Nice shot, David. I like the low perspective. A shame about your friend's camera. Though I'm tempted not to respond to K.T.'s catty comment, I feel it's worth saying that part of the fun about photography and photoblogging is what one person sees as artistic may be ugly to someone else and vice versa. That's the "beauty" of all forms of art, in my opinion. It's one thing to leave tactful, constructive criticism, but another thing to be rude. If you don't like the subject matter in a photoblog, then go somewhere else rather than whine about it. David, I enjoy seeing your posts each day. Keep up the nice work.
