Yesterday, I mentioned that I had two shots I was happy with from my brief trip to the beach. This is a third one, and I'm not entirely convinced it works. That said, it's Libby's favourite from the three, and she's normally right about this sort of thing ;-)
And in case you're interested, the long exposure was achieved by using ISO 50, a couple of ND Grads and a very small aperture.

I think this is a great shot ... very emotional ... Almost like a man helpless in the last desperate throws of survival before drowning.
Oh heck! Surely it's not Russ's tripod?

Fantastic - and yes Libby knows best ;-)

Um... I don't think Libby's right at all on this occasion. Or rather, I disagree with her. I vastly preferred yesterday's shot over this one I'm afraid. This one doesn't really have the shape of yesterdays, for me. There's not much to look at beyond the rusting form. The waves don't really work with the colouring, everything sort of gets lost... My girlfriend comes in and looks over my shoulder at my shots as I'm discarding most of them and says "Ooh, that's nice!" all the time. I'm afraid I usually disagree... ;)

It may be true that there isn't a lot to look at as owen-b says but I find it a pleasant enough image, the softness of the water being made to appear more so by contrast with the hardness of the rusting metal. I'm quite happy with the pastel colorings as well which further contribute to the softness. The sea has many moods and all moods don't have to be the same.

Would have preferred a different crop - perhaps eliminating the top portion... Nice, steady shot, though.

Sorry Dave but I think it's dull. I don't think it does anything at all...aesthetic? no. Evocative? no...technical qualities? yeah....as always. but hey.....

i really like the ghosty water and the decay. the soft colors against that rusty contraption there really conjure up thoughts of hidden strength. the power that water hides as it is eating away at the life of the object... it might not be for everyone, but im fond of it.

Well, I love your "widescreen"-type of work. I really enjoy the movement of the water in here, bacause its not totally milky ...

I like the treatment of the water in this shot and the crop is nice too.

Great shot Dave love the effect of the water motion on the stationary object in the s ea. I realli like this, good call Libby :)

Thanks everyone.
Mark: I"m inclined to agree, at least to an extent, but I guess that at least a few of the people who looked at it quite liked it.

I like the abstract form and 0.6 of a second is always a good choice for capturing the sea's movement.

This is good Dave, I like the movement of the waves at the bottom half of the shot coupled with the staticness of the groyne.
p.s. I have one of this metal object that came out rather well and will be posting it soon...

I like the contrast between the sharpness of the object and the smoothness of the water. Nice job.
