Today was a good day, not least because we sent the last sections of the book to the publisher. I also managed to spend a couple of hours at the beach. Most of the stuff I shot was pretty terrible, but I really like this one.
The tumbnail made it look like the leaves were in water, I was surprised by the full image they were not. I like how this one draws you in past the leaves, right to the horizon.

Excellent Photo. The last 2 have really wowed me. Also, it's interesting watching Chromasia go through the transition from Hobby to Business - little things just keep appearing every so often...!

Orignal focus and DOF. Just like the composition.

Looks like Dave is back. You seem more stressed than your lecturing times :) great shot Dave excellent DOF and blurring

Nice shot - but I was very surprised that this was 5.6 - it looked like a much wider aperture. I keep thinking about the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 and wanting it so very badly. A shame Nikon charge so damn much for their fast lenses!
Dave, absolutely stunning. Clean, simple, and above all very "chromasia". Well done.

Um, for me the DoF is a little too narrow. Well focused but the negative space dominates this image and not in a pleasing way. Then again, the texture is good.
It will be ace to see a book with your name on the cover.

mooch - Dave already has several books with his name on the cover - but they are all on psychology! This will be his first photography book, and we can't wait to see the finished version :-)

When you live in the East Midlands some seventy plus miles from the amazing East Anglian coast I wonder why people dismiss pictures of the sea into a fuzzy blur. I just spent two days down in Suffolk challenging myself with DIY skills that have laid dormant for many years. We finished the list of jobs on the 2 up 2 down hovel that we have recently bought and which is 15mins from the coast ...We then decided to wizz over the to spend just 20 mins by the coast and absorb the clear air and gentle seas mmmmmm ... and it wasn't blurred!!!
Have just driven the 3hrs back to Leicester and been hit by your photo ...nice one David.

Thanks everyone.
ROB: it's seaweed, but I know what you mean.
Mark: yep, the transition is interesting, and keeps surprising me too.
Ryano: the last few weeks have been fairly hellish - far too much to do, and not enough time to do them in - but I'm confident that things will become a lot more chilled out over the coming months.
Mooch: yep, it will be cool. And Libby exaggerated - there's only one academic book that has my name on the cover, the rest were ones that I contributed to.
Regis (and everyone else): the DoF is a consequence of shooting at only a few inches away from the subject.
Jeremy: you're mistaken ;-)
Richard: it's not dismissal, it's creative reinterpretation :-)

Great, great shot, and without PS :-) I'm so inspired of your photos... and looking forward to free online tutorials...

I also managed to update the tutorial pages and have added some details about our training weekends for this summer.
Tomorrow though, I'm going to relax :-)

Lovely selective focus, invokes an atmosphere of emptiness and abandonment. And the detail you've retained in your shadows is spectacular.

Nice shot !
Here is mine !.
Probably not photoshoped as yours !
Rob - I already have that 50mm f/1.8. But it's too tight for a lot of things! The 17-55mm became mine today...
sweet photo ... nice tight shot!
Yay David, nice to see the old Chromasia form back!! This is a stunner, love the emptiness punctuated by the sea weed - excellent.
Hmmm! I'd like a copy of this printed for my wall. mal
Superb shot! Minimalist and beautiful. I like the toning too.
