This is another one from my trip to the beach, and I have one more that I'll put up tomorrow. After that, all being well, I've have one or two from my trip to the desert this afternoon (though the light was really terribly so I'm not quite sure what I've got yet), and then maybe a couple more from a late afternoon trip to the beach that I have planned for tomorrow.
Normally when I take this type of shot, especially at this time of year, I'm laying on my stomach on a cold and wet beach, wearing a shirt, fleece, coat and hat ... with numb fingers and a feeling that I might freeze to death at any moment. Here though, things are a lot warmer, and despite it being winter in Dubai too, it felt more like a balmy summer's day. Which, given the last few months of drab, damp and cold weather we've been having in Blackpool, was a decidedly pleasurable change.

Can I go out on a limb and suggest that your - admittedly few - photos of the beach in Dubai suggest, in a big way, that the impact and dynamism of your shots of the Blackpool beach derive largely from your familiarity with that environment; point being that while it's interesting to see your style transposed to a different locale, the change seems to have made your photos noticeably more tentative. I think that's really interesting. Though his environment is (pictorially) largely like what you encounter in Blackpool, here it's presented as, if you will, the 'other' while in England, such objects are presented as the familiar. I suspect that all sounds rather pretentious. Oh well.

great DOF david! I have to agree with Boje in some way I actually really prefer your blackpool shot even though as miserable it may be they look "cool" there if that makes sense. anyhoo I love your work all of it!

The colour of the sky is vey lovely. It somehow looks creamy.

How do you get those colors? I find your shots consistently beautiful, but it's the colors that I think you have a magic touch with. Share your secrets?
I agree with Boje and Jennifer. The shot is similar to those you have taken in Blackpool - but the Blackpool ones work much better. The wood looks so brash and shiny, which in my mind, sums up how Dubai seems - brash and showy! Have you had a look at those Palm Islands Dave? They look so insane... It is nice though, to see a different view on the world. Enjoy your trip.

What I find really interesting about this is the direct comparison it enables us to make between the typical light in England and the typical light closer to the equator. The light in this shot is so much harder and the 'feel' of the image is completely different because of it.
Also, looking back at your other 'beach junk' shots, I notice that you usually break the horizon with the piece of junk which you haven't done here. Again, it makes for quite a different shot.
Nice work and I look forward to the desert shots.

It's like a scene from Castaway or Lost. Very nice.
Never mind the cold David! I think, without the terrible british weather, your pictures would miss their special mood.
This one is really similar to the Blackpool ones, but I can see the difference for first sight. Of course the warm and sunny beach is always more comfortable to shot on, but you don't have to work for the Shot as hard. So I'm looking forward to your Blackpool beach shots :)
Until then, have a nice time!

Just down the coast, in Oman, the sky is grey and cloudy - I blame Dave for bringing Blackpool weather with him !! Also, here there is no junk on the beach - it woudl be instantly cleaned away by an Asian worker.

Dubai sounds a totally unnatural place David .... not that I'm tellin you something that we all didn't already know.

Yes, reminds a lot the Blackpool beach photos that you take.
I'm also planning a trip to the beach to take some photos. It's very sunny in Portugal right now but it's also damn cold. Let's see what I can manage.
Just be careful of them tides out there Dave ;-)
Love the saturation on this shot, looks vibrant!
Hope you are enjoying the trip Dave we will meet again hopefully on your return...
Yea - you found some junk - doesn't have quite the same character as the Blackpool stuff - way too clean ;-)

Great colours. I like the brightness. I like the composition too, althought it reminds me of many of your other beach shots.
