I was hoping to have a bit more energy this evening, but after an 18 hour trip that didn't include a great deal of sleep, I'm afraid that I'm even less lively than yesterday. So, briefly, this is the first of three more shots taken in the desert just outside of Dubai.
Of the three that I'm going to put up, this is Libby's favourite, but I prefer tomorrow's.

Ah, that's the kind of stuff I've been waiting to see. Beautiful... very lonely, moody, but such a great deperature from Blackpool!

Now we can see the desert sand in its context. The composition transmit a feeling of emptiness and desolation. Excellent work! :-)

This looks quite apocalyptic. Great stuff.

Is that the best accommodation you could find ? ;-) Llove the sky.

Feels lonely and desolate and the toning helps drive that home. Brilliant shot.
comment byBald Spots at 04:14 AM (GMT) on 27 March, 2007
your lens is 24-70 but the focal length is 17. but a decent picture.
comment by Sharla at 04:56 AM (GMT) on 27 March, 2007
So nice to see you out of your element and how well you capture it. I'm saddened you didn't have more time to explore but I'm looking forward to your remaining shots.
comment byBert at 05:51 AM (GMT) on 27 March, 2007
Yes, it is a very lonely place. Colours are well framed. The "house" looks very decayed. I like it.
comment byMike at 06:53 AM (GMT) on 27 March, 2007
I like the swirling lines in the sand and sky both leading to the enclosure. The sky looks more Blackpool than Dubai though :-)

I love the composition - My only comment is you have some bad colour fringing in the sky.
comment by Christian at 02:58 AM (GMT) on 28 March, 2007
Interesting... is the vignetting from using at 17mm on full frame sensor or did you add it later?
comment bySFarrell at 03:01 AM (GMT) on 28 March, 2007
Great composition. I'm a bit confused but by excited by the texture and color in the sky to the left. I really get a sense of calm before the storm in this picture. It's ironic to see that the building seems like it's been hit already by the impending doom. Love it.

In the true style of Chromasia! Much better than the sand pictures... I find it hard to imagine how the place really looked like without the distorted perspectives on the fence at 17mm.

Impressive how this scene is so much different than the pics at the beach! Nice colours too!
comment by Richard Trim at 06:59 PM (GMT) on 28 March, 2007
Wonderful remotness....true remoteness I guess. And truely evocative abandonment.
It's actually something that can be found, in its own special way, in the fells of the Lancashire and the Peak district (a much closer walking haunt for me David) where the remoteness (even on a smaller scale), the weather and the abandoned barns can create such similar emotions. Eventually I will say I like the photo .... Naah! ... It's bloody brilliant.

Thanks everyone.
Jennifer: :-)
Bald Spots: thanks, I've fixed it now.
Sharla: yep, more time would have been good, and if I get to go back there are several locations I want to visit.
Mike: it's definitely a Dubai sky.
Photo Buffet: as best I could tell it was part goat enclosure and part storage compound.
moonhead: no, there isn't any colour fringing. I suspect you're viewing this on an LCD that can't display all the colours.
Christian: the vignette is part lens part PS.
Richard: give me a shout if you need a companion at some point. It's a while since I visited the Peak District.

David, I'm very jelluos with you. Every single photo you posted it's xcelent and i couldn't imagine you're thinking that way. I try to do the task with my photo but it failed to be same like you did. It's impressive to me the way you look and blending the colors. You got some tips, let me know. Thanks

This is so beautiful. Been to Dubai myself and this makes me wanna go back:))
Looks like a lonely, barren place. Glad you had a safe trip.
That's more like it.
Wow, David. You've turned a desolate piece of land into a dramatic photo. I like your ratio between sky and sand. (What is the building?)
Cool, I like it... I think you got the wrong lens in the comment though :D
Beautifully presented and in a silver tray
One more beautiful one !
