This is the second of three shots of Rhowan and Harmony playing on the beach yesterday afternoon. Tomorrow's is my favourite, but I like the rather dull, flat feel of this one too.

Cant wait to come up this summer Dave, hope the weather holds out, loving the shots by the way, some of the tonal treatments in your pics are just on the button....keep it up mate.

When I saw your photos for the first time (about 2 years ago), the abundance of color typical of your shots amazed me every time I saw them. Now, your images have less color but are much more emotional than before, which balance the two different styles. Today's photo is a good example of that.

Flat colors and feel in one sense, but at the same time the kids' movement make it dynamic. Pushes me nack to being a kid.

Tell me please about the vignetting, even if I've spelled it wrong.
Unless it's going to be shortly available as an online tutorial!
It's part of what makes this image work for me.
Thanks for sharing your skills and also sharing your joys.

Ok...Sorry Dave, but I'm gonna have to follow up my last comment. Seems to me that you've taken to posting very average photographs but stuck big, noticeable colour tones on them...almost like you're forcing them to stand out. Of course, your style has always been based around that - and successfully so...but, for me, it seems very forced at the moment....clutching at straws, just so you have something to post.
I think you need to step back and think about it...you're becoming nothing more than a parody of yourself (imo). Of course you've got the pressure of now being a 'pro'...and the never ending family issue...but where's the artist?

Sorry that sounds like an attack btw...it's not meant to be. I thought it would be interesting to actually use the comment (community) thing for something more than simply kissing your arse ;)

mate, I like your photos. Sometimes i look and am really inspired. Sometimes I am not. The point I want to make : sometimes when I am not inspired I return a few hours/days later and REALLY like the photo. So it seems to me that my enjoyment of your work says more about me than the quality of your photo. I notice the same with my own work (paintings & photos); sometimes I don't like what I have created and then later it 'grows on me' and I find something in it I DO like.
Hope this makes sense. Keep up the good work Dave!

I was going to comment on the strangley subdued tones. What time of day was this shot? I love that wide open space and Rhowan (?) running into it. Makes her look somewhat vulnerable.

Thanks all.
mdohoney: the vignetting was achieved by drawing an arch, feathering it by 250px, selecting the inverse, then using a Curve to darken the outer areas of the image.
Mark: I'm working up to a longer answer, but, in the meanwhile, ... chromasia is a blog – I post what I have. Sometimes it's good, sometimes not so good, some people like it, some people don't. As for this one: I like it.
mooch: early afternoon, and it's Rhowan in the background, Harmony running into the shot.
