I'm not entirely convinced I've got this one right, but it is a technique I'll use again. What I do like about it though is way it clearly demonstrates the difference between Rhowan and Harmony's physical competence. Rhowan, who will be six this August, is quite capable, while Harmony (who turned four in February) clearly has some way to go :-)
Update: thanks for all the great comments, they're much appreciated, not least because I wasn't sure that I'd got this one right – so it's good to hear that most of you disagree with me.
On another matter: I probably won't be posting many new entries over the next week or so as I'm concentrating on getting the online tutorials sorted out. If you haven't already seen it, I'm about half way through a basic Curves tutorial. I'm pleased with it so far, but if you do have any constructive comments I'd really like to here them.
Update #2: my apologies for the continuing lack of new material, but things have been a bit hectic here. Libby and I, and our three youngest, have all had colds – which really hasn't helped – and yesterday my new laptop died. Well, it looks like the hard drive has failed, which is bordering on a major catastrophe. I have all my recent images backed up, but haven't run a full back since the start of March; i.e. I've lost lots of emails, some work I was doing that needed to be completed by yesterday, the latest section of the new Curves tutorial, and so on.
So, today I need to go over to Manchester to let an Apple Genius look at my MacBook Pro and I really hope that they can recover some of the data I've lost :-/
Anyway, the long and the short of it is that there won't be any new material in the short-term. I'll keep you posted.

I'm guessing you used a tripod to ease the blending process. How did you manage the opacity? Was it selective, say with layer masks, or have you set global layer transparencies.
Irrespective the the technique details, it's a nice shot! One I intend to copy!

Hmmmm ... I have a horrible feeling that I might become mildly precocious with my response. Kids mucking about - great theme. Multi-frame shots (if that's the jargon) - good idea.
BUT ... for me, the two kids should have had a tad more space between them ...
AND as for the stage of development ... I reckon Harmony is way better than you David. Rhowan looks highly co-ordinated for a six year old.
Shame you didn't catch Harmony collapsing into a scrambled bundle of arms and legs moments later.
I'll use the ubiquitous''nice'' shot.

What I like the most about this pic is not just the sense of moviment but also the sense of musicality we can feel coming from it.....It remainds me "Capoeira"..and the little Harmony does a lot for it happenig. Also the colours is just perfect to create a perfect mood!Well done!
Yes, you'll have to lift the curtain on this magic show and tell us the process. I like it.

Hi Dave,
One of your best shots for ages. This is just so good, what a sense of fun you've captured and created. It could almost be my own two daughters, Jenny who turned six in February and Charlotte who will be four in August, they are at what would appear to be very similar stages.
Love it.

I just wish to express my fondness for this shot and add to the number of comments, so others regard it as interesting. Which it is. :) Very nicely done, Mr. DJN, but I am looking forward to an improvement on this technique, and maybe a tutorial.

David, instead of letting us all say "nice" and "great" why don't you implement some sort of rating system? Like 5 stars, let's say. And if you're worried about the voting audience you could limit the possibility of doing so by assigning passwords to specific visitors. Like your regulars, let's say. I don't know, you decide what to take into consideration. But I think it would certainly make things more interesting than counting comments. :) It would also serve as great archive searching criteria.
And this is back to your best Dave. Forgive me for not bothering to answer any reply or comeback to my previous comment - I simply couldn't be arsed with dealing with the blinkered that will have no doubt attacked me in some way (it's all subjective but only positive comments please!)
I do feel that you've slipped of late but this is the kind of thing that says to me you're pushing on again. I love it. Nicely done, and good luck with everything :)
By the way, just in case you did reply to my comment on the site...could you email me? I can't be bothered hunting it for it ;)
I like this shot. It is really a cute shot of your daughter although I think the process of her doing the handstand isn't so smooth. I think a bit of detail was lost in between. There is room for improvement so I can't wait to see your future pictures with this technique.

This is an interesting shot and I think quite saleable to clients, parents would love to see there child at this age doing there thing in an action montage like this. Very nicely handled. Something to consider perfecting for sure.
Stumble Upon has just brought me to this image by chance and all I can say is WOW!! Consider your site bookmarked! I'm on a steep learning curve with my new DSLR and its shots like this that keep me going, hopefully one day I'll get up to speed with it all.

Great shot man! I really think you nailed the shot and final editing. I was bit wondering, if this would be archievable by a flash strobo, but I would have to quess in the end it would need quite lots power from the strobo.
