There were various events in Blackpool this weekend, including several live bands, a French drumming troupe, and a kite display. I got four shots that I'm happy with – two kites and two drummers – that I'll put up over the next few days.
Oh, and this is probably my least favourite of the four.
As an aside, if you get the "your comment will be moderated" screen, don't worry about it. Movable Type has updated the way it handles spam and it seems to be flagging a lot of 'innocent' IP addresses as dubious. I'll review this in a few days if it continues to be a problem.

The composition is fantastic and the crop choice couldn't be better. I can't wait to see the drummer photos. hmmm... maybe that's because I played drums a few years ago. :-)

Just wow!
Did that thing really fly? It's like hand-drawn :)

what a cool image. I'm with eyevision, the blown out background is great.

Astonishing; it looks like a geometric drawing rather than a solid object, with those sharp black edges and "fake pencil" grey shading. I thought it was going to be some sort of abstract post-processing experiment!

西皮士: 这是一个风筝,David (这个网站的主人)在黑池拍的。
(In response to 西皮士, who was asking what is the object: It is a kite, photographed by David, this website's host, in Blackpool)
honestly, i can't get my mind or eyes to wrap around this image..all i see is a vector drawing...weird!

I agree with most of the comments...this has a very geometrical, vector/3d/cad/2d graphic art feel to it. Very nice. The only real hint visually being the cable in the lower left corner. coolness.

Stunning shot Dave!
Had to bee scrutinizing this pic from up close to determine if it is a true photograph or a pencildrawing!
Not fully convinced it is the first yet...;-)
(If it is the latter, you are a true pencil-artis too!)
Did you do a lot of postprocessing to bring out the kite this well??
I see you did not overexpose to compensate for the hars backlight...
Extraordinary!

interesting, I'm amazed you could isolate it so well.
I like the yellows in contrast with the greys. How did you make the background white? Is it overexposed or done by PS?

nferreira: the next kite shot is better than this one, but I like the photographs of the drummers better.
miChou: yep, it flew.

This looks more like an illustrations than a photograph
I like it. First image for a while that made me think "wow". Like the rest I thought it was an abstract at first glance, great looking kite.
une oeuvre d'art aérienne et légère. Superbe traitement!
At first the looked like a 3D / CGI model or something until I saw th string in the buttom! :-)
这是甚么东西?
Reminds me of a complicated lampshade from Ikea with no instructions.
Amazing, like a 3D model!

Wow! Great flying machine, great isolated shot!

Interesting shot. Looks like a pen and ink drawing.
I would love to see the unprocessed image!
I just thought like Franck, a fabulous flower with such a delicate paper texture...
One could seriously doubt that this one is real. It looks so graphical and rendered. Really great and a lucky chance for you!
