I've been struggling for inspiration recently, so rather than attempt something new I revisited one of my favourite haunts today – the pier at St. Annes.

nothing like raiding the archives.
I find that the lopsided-ness of the grid to make the image hard to look at, because the horizon seems crooked. I love the colors though, and I'd love to see some more images from this pier.
sometimes the inspiration takes a while to come. When it does finally come though it's wonderful, as you know.
As for this image, I like it. But hey, I've liked all of your St. Anne's pics. I agree with Joseph regarding the crookedness, but I still like the perspective leading to the end of the pier. Post processing is stunning as usual.

I like the crookedness. It makes it seem wide, wide, wider than it actually is.

I like the way the grid guide our eyes to the left side of the composition. It's a balance game between the vertical structure at the end of the pier and the horizon. Excellent shot, Dave! :-)
Ok, I need to retract my earlier statement regarding the crookedness. I see that the horizon is level and the structure at the end is pretty much straight vertical, so the crooked pier is obviously because the pier is actually crooked.

I like the way the pilings lean toward the end of the pier; almost as if they are worshiping the structure on the end.
The colours are absolutely fabulous on this shot. The pillars are what really make this shot for me though. Something about them makes me feel like I'm sitting right there.

Eyecatching but perhaps not enduring. The colours and textures in the pier are great. The d.o.f. seems surprisingly shallow for f11 on a 17mm.

I like the graphic force of this image. Very good treatment! Great shot!
Brilliant photo, I like the perspective, the colours and the focus to the "tower" at the end of the pier, looks almost like a scene of the game Myst/Riven; really good work.

I think a great shot like this should have been taken more carefull. it´s just not balanced, you were not in the middle of the path.
sorry, but that really cought my eye at first sight.
the rest is great as usual!
I love the illusion that the pier goes on and on and just the quirky looking angles and twisty feel to this beautiful structure.
I thought the sky looked a little strange and unrealistic. hmmmmm sort of darker than the rest of the image but ofcourse it really could have looked like this :)

I like the perspective and the smooth, diagonal lines. Nice shot.

Does the pier lean?
Very nice photo. I love the perspective and the deepness.
Beautiful angle and perspective. Nicely done!
Thanks all.
Joseph: yes, thanks, the family are fine :-)
Lightseeker: the DoF is a consequence of shooting at the closest focussing distance.
birgit: the 'middle of the path', for me at least, wasn't the middle of the photograph I wanted to create.
m: yes.
