Five of the six shots I'll be putting up from our holiday last week were processed using Raw Developer, with very little additional work within Photoshop. This one, on the other hand, was post-processed a little more extensively. And I know, this sort of soft-focus effect is a bit of a cliché, but I think it suits this image.
Oh, and this is the more angelic shot of Rhowan that I mentioned on Monday, and even I have a hard time believing that it's a photograph of the same child ;-)

Indeed - that is the same child? (Mom knows best!)
For this type of look, it is very well done. Not my favorite style personally as it reminds me too much of the department store photo department, but thats a personal taste issue. For the style, it is indeed excellent. I would like to see another version of this just for comparison, with less processing - it would make an interesting comparison.
As a big fan of the Harry Potter books, this shot could be Luna Lovegood as a child.

Fab - she looks very ethereal! It's a lovely effect in moderation and I think it probably works because it wasn't taken against a backcloth in a dept store!!

There's a reason cliches become cliches, whether in language or in photography--they work and people can relate to them. You're certainly not in any danger of falling into a cliche mode by posting one lovely picture like this! Isn't it funny how many personalities can fit into one little kid's person?

I've not seen that effect work so well for a very long time. Not only do you have the eye, but also the imagination (and the skill to pull it off) good stuff david!

Almost ethereal :-)
I think I like the previous one of her better!

I really like this image. The soft effect suits it. I must admit it does remind me of a technique I would associate with the 70's but I do like the gentle tones.

This is a nice portrait of a child. If you are able to share more info on it ...Did you add a blur mask to it? If so, what kind? I notice the flowers are very detailed but the forearms are not. Also, it appears to have a white glow on her... was any of that added? Finally, do you feel that it is important when doing these types of shots to be shooting around 160 mm? Thanks in advance if you answer. BTW, I went through and loved the tutorial on the curves.

I like the soft focus effect. It fits good to this cute little girl. The blown out parts are a bit disturbing otherwise.
simply beautiful.
I simply love this! such a nice expression, a soft and gentle mood... great job!
Just beautiful and so appropriately processed.
