I suspect, but wouldn't want to bet, that this one will get a less polarized response than yesterday's shot of Ryan and Fiona, which some of you liked, and some of you seemed less keen on.
I'd also like to pick up on a point that was made in the comments yesterday by Richard; i.e. that I didn't put my mark on the shot and that it "seem[ed] to have come straight out of a glossy film brochure". And my response to both points is "good". For the majority of this sequence (which I'll intersperse amongst some other shots that I'll put up from my trip) the overall feel of the shots was determined by Ryan and Fiona: and some were intended to be serious, some less so. What I've tried to do is process them in a way that I think is congruent with what they were trying to get across. So yesterday's was very much the glossy 'my name is Bond' type image and today's focusses on their expressions and actions. That said, I'm quite prepared for you not to like them, for all the reasons you mentioned yesterday, but I did want to say that my approach was deliberately different with some of them. I do have a few that are more distinctively "my style" of image though, and I'll put them up at some point.
Anyway, all that aside, let me know what you think.

I like this one so much more than the yesterday's one. This looks like more real, more natural. The tones are very nice and the black water is also moody.

I think this shot is better, looks more real, and she looks even better.
Great tone on this shot

fantastic work.
comment by PJ at 07:58 PM (GMT) on 2 September, 2007
Beautiful lighting on the faces, and leaving the shoreline so out of focus really centers the eye on the figures--making it more of a "portrait." The tones are fantastic all 'round. The big, pleasant smiles help, but I think this would be a great shot even if they had their "Bond" faces on. As always, thanks for sharing.

Really is a lovely shot - I'd kill for her teeth!
comment byJason Dale at 09:48 PM (GMT) on 2 September, 2007
Quite stunning. The detail in the tones and the skin, hair etc is superb, especially as there is such a shallow DOF in play (though perhaps Photoshop has helped here?) as a portrait this is a great piece of work!

Since a long time you had not accustomed to us so beautiful portraits ;)

David, I have been watching your daily images for quite a while, and I assure you that yesterday's image had a very distinctive chromasia feel to it. I personally didn't care much for Ryan's eyes yesterday (nor today), but that's not in your control. Perhaps the treatment of aperture is what made yesterday's shot uniquely yours.
About today's picture, I like it much better, although Ryan's expression is not the most attractive male expression I've seen (even if he is a model). I like your levels a lot! As with the first picture from this series, there is something shocking about how dark the picture is, especially the water. One can easily interpret the water as being a different fluid... perhaps Coke? :)

Gorgeous image David. I would like to see the color version as well.

I like this one better than yesterday as well...but mostly because fiona has a stunning smile. :) Depth of field is great. I'm not sold on the water being so dark....almost makes it seem that they're swimming in oil vs. water. But, that's just me... Great shot.
comment byTodd Baker at 03:15 AM (GMT) on 3 September, 2007
Dave...I agree that this shot contains more of "your style". I study your black and white images, the lighting, contrast, tone, trying to gleen any piece of information that would make my images better. I do prefer this one, though, due to the more jovial expressions. Well done.

I think both are fabulous. And that in the end, it's *your* art, and that's what really matters.
comment byTinaR at 07:13 AM (GMT) on 3 September, 2007
Beautifull picture.
If Ryans head would have been turned a little bit more left, the second eye would not be that dark..

comment byJeremy at 12:46 PM (GMT) on 3 September, 2007
I'm a bit unsure about what the purpose of the photo is. For sure it's an interesting take on two attractive people, but showing it in b&w seems a bit perverse. I have had the opportunity to soend some time in the Bahamas myself, and to portray it without the vibrant colours seems a bit weird.
A question, not a criticism

Boy, you guys are harsh. I think both images are stunning, but for different reasons. Either way, they capture this very attractive couple beautifully. Nice work

So much nicer... I might have been a bit hasty in yesterdays comments, you haven't really said what these images are for? It they're promo shots for a James Bond porn spin-off... then it's got to be yesterdays. Ha ha.
If they're portraits though, this is so much more sympathetic. I'd like to know what the models/directors think? Will some of the images you shot for the Bahamas' Ministry of Tourism commission go up on this site somewhere?

Jason: the DoF is natural.
Jeremy: I chose black and white for this one because I thought it worked better than the colour version.
andyshon: the models/directors like both of them (though I think they also preferred this one to yesterday's) and they weren't for anything in particular - though both may use them for their books. And yes, a couple of the commissioned shots will be going up soon.

Well, this one is "chromasia" as wel as yesterdays I think, just on a different level...
The exposure is "definitely you". The light on the models especially on Fiona, lovely.
Sparkling! The expressons are very spontaneous. Happy , free, fun...

This one is a million times better, mostly because in the other shot the models look like wacky-ass scary aliens. Here they actually look good, which is kind of a model's job, unless I've been misinformed.
