This is the first of two portraits of Fiona that I'll be putting up and these will be the last shots I'll be posting from my recent commission in Nassau. Of the two I'm not sure which I prefer but Libby thinks tomorrow's is much better than this one.

Almost reminds me of Galadriel from LOTR or something from 'what lies beneath'. Kinda freaky shot almost ghost like with watery skin. Different and I like it anyway.

I love the post-processing you've done with this one Dave - just not sure about her expression. Something a little awkward about it.

great photo. intense look. kinda'... eerie? the eyes are really dark... I would like to see more color in them and the skin... she's kinda like a gorgeous looking..uhm... zombie/ghost-like apparition?
Technically very well done... just no my preferred final outcome.

I don't like her expression and the framing seems off--too much negative space on the right.

She reminds me of the blonde from Abba! Also can see what YETi means :-0. Thumbs up!

Ooops my smilie went a tad wrong - looks shocked! :-)

Really like this one.
comment byRonald at 09:24 AM (GMT) on 10 September, 2007
Quite an extraordinary portrait.
Lovely desaturated colours...the eyes a bit more blue, the little catchlights....
It does have a kind of mysterious glare over it, if you get my drift...
As stated above by another viewer/commenter...a touch of ghostlyness( is that good english?) Indeed, the scene where Galadriel transformes when tempted by the Ring...
Fiona shows an expectative expression, there is a tension in this portrait...the washed eyeliner... the slightly opened lips..,the wet look...(hair and upper torso)
Mermaid...is what comes to mind...or even Greek mythology: Sirene!
Lovely DOF and toning...
I wonder what tomorrow will bring...
P.S. (btw, I sort of managed the xtra page in my Pixelpostblog..., sorry to have bothered you with an email)

I really like the way you handled the saturation in this one.
comment byDean at 02:26 PM (GMT) on 10 September, 2007
Is she meant to be scary/goth looking (make up), i don't really get this image, she doesn't look as attractive as in others, but maybe that's the point?? Look forward to tomorrows.

LOL at your introductory notes Dave ... Very clever of you to use Libby as bait so that we nibble at your blog tomorrow ... laughing. Have you got any of Fiona in jeans and t shirt. Bet she was unaware that her eye-liner had run... Nah women know everything!!!!! You must be having great fun creating variations on the theme.

Yeah i'm with dean on this one. She looks pretty creepy and it doesn't quite strike me the same way the others have. it is cool to see something completely different though (actually I wanted to say BRILLIANT and AMAZING but I was afraid that Mark would deem my comment to cliche and rally for my explusion from the site....ha)

Thanks all.
Dean: I can't speak for Fiona's intentions but I would guess that you're not meant to "get" this one; i.e. it isn't meant to be a straigtforward image.
Richard: yes, she knew, and yes, they're fun. As for the 'Libby' thing: I haven't mentioned it for a while, but the standing joke is that if Libby prefers one shot over another, so will everyone else but me.
Brooks: his bark is worse than his bite ;-)

I love the feel of the photo, but after analyzing what's not perfect about it for awhile, what I notice is that she seems to be squishing herself into frame (I know she's not), so perhaps for me the cropping is a little forced, or rather the posing? Also perhaps a tad too much DOF on her (the hair---I wish there was more texture here). Something funny about the hair/ear on the right/her left also....
But still.
Love the photo and I'd love it if was my own.

The first poster beat me to it, (kind of). She's metamorphosized into 'elven' in this pic. An enigmatic water nymph, emerging, somewhat wary and surprised, from a woodland spring on spying the presence of a stranger..... with a whisper of Mona Lisa smile to tease the eye away from a gaze that pierces then rapes the psyche.
I think this is your best one of her. You've captured something more than commerical beauty here.

Your post processing gives this piece an ethereal quality that I don't think would be there otherwise. She is beautiful, and I quite like the intensity of her expression...but truly, your colour choices advanced the image. Very nice!
