I took quite a few photographs of Rhowan and Harmony today but, for one reason or another, most of them were fairly terrible: either they were posing, or the focus or composition was off, or they just didn't work. This one though I'm reasonably happy with, even though it's blatantly obvious she knows she's being photographed :-)

Butter wouldn't melt ;-D Lovely shot and unusual tone.

I like the toning which suits the blue eyes. The funny Iphone something in the back completes the image very well.

Ryan: thanks, though I think you're overstating things a little ;-)

Jennifer: yes, she can look exceptionally cute when she wants to.

olhshutterhand: I should have mentioned that she's standing in front of a toy cooking unit. The 'phone' thing is the control panel for the microwave, the door of which is behind her head.

comment by Scott Collins at 09:58 PM (GMT) on 8 January, 2008

The photo is perfect, but I'd photoshop out the phone, it's a little distracting. I love how all the tones in the photo match the subject. Great job.

I'm a bit confused - what is this 'phone' people are seeing?

I dunno, I'm not really liking this. It's too pink, it's too artificially blurry and her eyes (and to a lesser extent her hairline ) are too sharp in comparison to the rest of the image. If this was black and white and didn't feel so airy and soft I think I'd like it more, though.

comment by owen-b at 10:11 PM (GMT) on 8 January, 2008

Ohhhh, the control panel for the microwave... I don't mind that element - why's it a bit wonky though? Is it because it's a 'toy' microwave?

Nice, sharp and crisp. I also like the pink tones. Well done!

every now and then you do a photo of one of the kids that is simply heavenly, like this one. maybe she is waiting on a call from Elvis. ;)

comment by Paul at 01:47 AM (GMT) on 9 January, 2008

I like most of it; especially the toning. I really wish you could lose the toy oven though, not just the control panel...the whole thing.

comment by Rob at 02:02 AM (GMT) on 9 January, 2008

It has a kind of science-fiction feel to it with the whiteness and the control panel in the background. Looks like something from Kubrick's movie 2001 (the kiddie version, with Hallie, instead of HAL ;-)

Excellent shot! The pose and look is so natural :) Beauty !

Although she knew she was being photographed it hasn't ruined anything. Look at the expression on her face. It's got me smiling. I'd be very happy with a shot like this.

hahaha, this little darling knows the art of manipulation too well with her 'cuteness factor.' She is adorable, and the toning of this image really complements the mood of the image.
Great work, as always,

cheers

I like the expression and processing, I just find that background too distracting.

Very cute. Nice soft tones.

Did you use LAB here? Anyway it's a cool portrait!

comment by djn1 at 07:22 PM (GMT) on 9 January, 2008

Thanks everyone.

owen-b: yes, it's just a sticky label.

Marc: yes, partially. The skin tones were done in LAB, then the rest of the image was worked on in RGB.

I like the colour in this one, her expression and the microwave in the background. It all gives it a sort of 'scifi', 'spaceshippy' feel. XP

Not sure you're yet a deity but none the less I like the photo.

Interesting portrait. Very "2001," and her expression is terrific.

First though on my mind when this shot popped up: Geesh, that's soo cute!

This is one of those photos when I see it invokes a pleasent feeling in me because of the color and that wonderful look in her eyes and smile you captured in your photo.
