Yesterday I mentioned that I had two shots of the sunset, and that I'd post the second today. This isn't it, I'll post that one tomorrow, but in the meanwhile I thought I'd put this one up. It's much the same scene as yesterday, taken a minute earlier, though the crop is 3x1 rather than 2x1 and the DoF is much greater. As with yesterday's I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Simply gorgeous , i like yesterday's, but prefer this one. The colours, natural horizontal stripes and shapes work wonderfully, especially in the super wide panoramic form.. beautiful!

I like this one more. I guess its just me because of DoF. Boundaries are better defined and color is more vivid i guess. Also 3x1 cropping is quite appealing. Good one. Would love to see the one that will be posted tomorrow :)

I agree that I like yesterdays, but like this one better, personally. I like the definition of the clouds, and the panorama view is awesome as well.

I must admit I really dislike this picture. Not that this is a bad picture at all, it just dosen't make up for the great picture yesterday. What I like about your pictures is they have something different, maybe even extraordinary.
The extraordinary in the shot yesterday was the strange yet good looking DoF.
Todays picture is in my eyes just a regular sunset, nothing fancy, special or anything about it. So a very nice picture, just not incredible as most of your pictures. :)

Hey - I was curious about your thoughts about C1 Pro. Also - I think I like yesterday's better, though this is really nice too.
Cheers

Gorgeous colour there - was there much processing to bring that out? In terms of the two, I like yesterdays much more as the almost abstract nature of the colours over the ripple of water appeal more to my imagination and 'aesthetic gland'.

This is really a good end for a day!

Can you explain to me as a novice photographer why the DOF in this one is so much greater than yesterday's? Both images have the same focal length, aperture and shutter speed. Is the different effect all from processing? (PS I prefer this one.)

joshua: I like C1 Pro for several reasons: it produces more natural colours and handles shadow detail better than ACR, and it's great for batch processing.
Tom: DoF varies depending on focal distance. For example, with a 70mm lens at f/4.0 the DoF is about an inch when the focal point is around 3 feet from the film plane. If the focal point is 8 feet then the DoF is around 1 foot, and when you get up to a focal point 30 feet away from the camera the DoF increases to 14 feet.

Oh WOW, this and the next one are both stunning, I prefer this one of the two. Goodness only knows why, I can't speak for tones, DoFs, 50 or 70mm lens', time lapse, and all that stuff, simply like what I see. I think David will have more idea than I have, probably cos it's a 50% sky shot..............?

I have mixed feelings about these two. I like the colours, I liked seeing the ripples in the water in yesterday's, but it confused my eyes to have focus on the bottom third of the shot. This one makes more sense to my eyes, but I think yesterdays was more interesting. :P
