Since writing my LAB tutorial I've been revisiting various shots that I've had laying around with a view to reprocessing them. This one, for example, was taken at the same time as this one, back in the summer of 2004. I didn't post it at the time, as it was quite similar to the one I did post, and I couldn't produce a colour version that I liked. As you can see, the original has a rather different palette:

What I didn't much like was the contrast between her pink cardigan and the yellow bucket. In this version, using LAB, the colours are much more muted and, in my opinion at least, it's a better image. As always, I'd be interested to hear what you think.

Absolute gorgeous. The parents must be very proud;)

I just love the soft skin tones and textures echoed in the clouds. Pink is everywhere and it looks so good.

Much better this way, I think it works fine, gives an homogenous result. I've using LAB since I saw some of your images and I've got pleasing results :)

LAB achieves some great results! I like this one better. The face is much more defined and tonally gradient. And the pink is great!

Very nice, peaceful and harmless image. Congratulations David!

The color palette is pleasing, it has a very Loretta Lux feel to it.

It looks like someone (me) is going to have to get that LAB colour tutorial...

Adorable, sometimes I wish I was your child so I would have all these wonderful shots as memories. ;)

I love your work, but in this case I think the original was a great shot to begin with and I think the coloring of this one looks very un-natural and almost gimmicky. I hate to say it since I'm such a fan, but just being honest.

Hooray an original! Love the composition, the colours are a bit muted for my taste but still a lovely photo. I hope I didn't offend you the other day when asking for the originals... my sincerest apologies if I did.

interesting use of photoshop, but i prefer original image. colours in the original are much more vibrant and i like the yellow bucket. this one is a bit sterile for me.

I think this photo is beautiful. I love the softness the photo seems to have. and I am always amazed at the skin tone you are always able to capture. For sure, I prefer this one with a white background. It's very sweet, yet thoughtful. It reminds me of watercolor almost.

Thanks everyone.

Rick: I'd much rather people left honest comments.

Max: no, I wasn't in the least bit offended.
